Salary Range: $39,166.40 ($18.83/hr.) – $58,760.00 ($28.25/hr.)

Grade: 105

Hours: 4:00 pm – 12:00 am   (2nd shift)

Position Summary:

An IT Technician is responsible for maintaining computer systems and other technologies in a business setting. Their duties include working with other IT Technicians to install hardware and troubleshoot computer issues, responding to IT questions from company associates and updating malware protection devices to prevent viruses or computer hacking.

 

Essential Functions:

IT Technicians strive to keep the technology of their company in good working order and accessible to customers and staff. They also work closely with their team, ensuring each situation is thoroughly resolved and all components are in working order. IT Technicians have the following responsibilities:

  • Maintaining working components through repair or replacement.
  • Handling customer technical support cases through phone and email submission.
  • Assisting customers and staff with hardware and software challenges.
  • Manage technical support cases through phone, email or personal interaction.
  • Assist users in troubleshooting common computer issues or concerns.
  • Assist end users with hardware repair or replacement.
  • Unboxing of new equipment
  • Set up PC’s and peripheral devices.
  • Escalate technical issues to appropriate person or department when needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of interactions with customers and recurring user problems.
  • Follow up with users as needed to ensure any problems are resolved.
  • Responsible for operation of mainframe computer system.
  • Responsible for completion of daily, weekly, and monthly concurrent processing.
  • Responsible for the daily coordination, set-up, initiation, and completion of all electronic money transfers (payroll and deferred comp monies), water bill payments, bank reconciliation and contract services support.
  • Directly assists development team in scheduling, troubleshooting and completion of test project requirements.
  • Responsible for using electronic work center logs for recording program run and benchmark times to assist the Supervisor in formulating computer system schedules.
  • Responsible for identification of all errors during computer processing
  • Responsible for handling, preparation, processing, and report routing of confidential information

 

Additional Duties

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Physical Requirements, Activities, and Working Conditions

  • Constantly changing from a sitting to standing position.
  • Prolonged standing and traversing in the computer room.
  • Must be able to work in a single operator environment with no assigned on site backup or assistance.
  • Entering and estimated 400 console entries per shift.
  • Changing continuous forms in two printers an estimated 25 times per shift.  Cartons range in weight from 20 to 45 pounds. Objects greater than 50 lbs requires a two-person operation.
  • Repetitive motions - substantial movements of the wrists, heads, hands and/or fingers.
  • Mounting magnetic cartridges on fixed drives approximately 200 times per shift.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and push a wheel cart weighing over 150 pounds. Objects greater than 50 lbs requires a two-person operation. 
  • Ability to ascend and descend three flights of stairs.
  • Ability to operate and maintain motor vehicles.

 

Education and/or Experience

  • Associate’s degree /Certificate in a computer related field or three years increasingly responsible experience in complex mainframe computer operations. High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must demonstrate personal computer skills to include DOS, Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Must be able to utilize, comprehend, and implement information and recommendations of a technical nature contained in reference manuals, texts and local documentation to minimize the impact of lost computer run time due to machine malfunctions and failures, program and database structure errors and run sheet schedule conflicts.
  • Must be able to work flexible and extended hours on short notice or during emergency situations and requires working rotating weekends.

Licenses, Certifications, Registrations

  • Valid South Carolina Driver's License required.

 

Training Needs:

  • OSHA and Departmental safety training as required.
  • Skills Based Training.
  • Standard Operating Instruction (SOI) per department requirements.
