Position Summary & Description:

Alaska Housing Finance Corporation is seeking an individual who is passionate about storytelling and interested in gaining communication experience with a diverse state agency. As an integrated communications intern, they will work alongside department staff its director to tell compelling stories that will last, and be provided opportunities to lead their own communications initiatives. This internship will provide real-world experience in thought leadership, creative writing, design, legacy and new media. Alaska Housing’s impact has been made from the most rural Alaska villages to New York’s Wall Street. It supports vulnerable Alaskans who may be veterans, homeless, survivors of domestic violence or youth aging out of foster care.

As an integrated communications intern, they may be asked to plan and execute tactics supporting journalism, public relations, marketing or special events.

Alaska Housing is looking for a storyteller with a passion for writing and open to feedback.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in content creation, including interviews of current and former employees, clients and participants in AHFC’s programs and informational posts
  • Identify media and marketing trends with possible engagement plans;
  • Draft news releases, materials for media interviews, social media campaigns and copy for PR/communications/collateral;
  • Create or update databases and digital archives, including media contacts;
  • Identify communication tactics and execute them as approved by the department director.

Requirements

Students applying for this internship must have strong communication skills and should major in Public Relations/Strategic Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Graphic Design or a related field. Applicants should also have strong writing skills, including familiarity with AP style. Individuals should bring a solid understanding/appreciation of research and social media. Only interns proficient with Microsoft Office should apply. Proficiency in Adobe or Canva would be beneficial. Please be prepared to submit digital samples of your work.

 

Majors

Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Graphic Design or related field.

 

This is a level 1 internship position with an hourly rate of $20.00.

 

All external applicants tentatively selected for this position shall be required to submit to urinalysis and breath alcohol testing to screen for illegal drug/alcohol use and complete a pre-employment physical prior to appointment.
