Summary:

The Food Safety and Quality Assurance Label & Nutrition Specialist develops and reviews technical label copy (including package graphics) for conformance to company standards and government regulations (domestic and international).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Reviews compliance of consumer package graphics with domestic and international governmental regulations.
  • Provides technical and regulatory support and information on customer issues (complaint response, resolution, and tracking) daily.
  • Provides timely update of product specifications, ingredient statements and maintenance of the company website and customer portals.
  • Calculates and validates product Ingredient Statements, percentage range formulas, and allergen statements, Support and maintain Genesis R&D database to create Nutritional Facts.
  • Assists and prepares processing plants for annual approval and quality audits: BRC (Brand Reputation through Compliance Global Standard), FDA (Food & Drug Administration), USDC (United States Department of Commerce), USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) and 3rd party customers inspections.
  • Coordinates projects for the development and improvement of products (on a product category basis).
  • Work closely with suppliers and internal departments such as sales, purchasing, legal, and marketing to ensure regulatory product compliance.
  • Help create and maintain a digital organization system for all legal and regulatory documentation regarding each product category.
  • Manages and conducts product label audits.
  • Coordinate with external labs for nutritional and other analytical testing services.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Participates in internal audits - working with the plants and vessels.
  • Collaborates with R&D Marketing by evaluating potential new products for potential label claims.
  • Recommend modifications to technical/regulatory systems as necessary to maintain continuous improvement and deliver high quality products and processes.
  • Acquires knowledge of Trident’s Environmental and Safety Policies by completing required training programs and performing designated work activities in accordance with training and procedures/work instructions.
  • Notifies designated personnel of any environmental or safety incidents or risks not previously documented, in accordance with Environmental Awareness and/or safety trainings.
  • Keep up to date on emerging food regulations and current events surrounding the seafood industry.

This is a salaried exempt position with an annualized salary range of $68k to $80k.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology, Food Science, or related field is required.
  • Intermediate proficiency with MS office applications, specifically, Excel.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge and experience with ESHA Genesis R&D.
  • Familiarity with 3rd party web data sites (iCiX, FSENet. ECCNet, SpecConnect)
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Food industry-specific knowledge of ingredients, food allergens, ingredient functionality and product formulas.
  • Familiarity with FDA Food Labeling requirements, USDC and USDA regulations andprograms (CN, Military, etc.).
  • Experience working with and current understanding of nutrition, labeling, and regulatory concepts gained through technical reading, industry interaction, and/or attendance at appropriate seminars and educational courses.
