JOB SUMMARY:

The Residential Specialist -- Assisted Living Facility assists individuals who meet the assisted living level of care to include but not be limited to activities of daily living, medical appointments, supervision, skills teaching.  This position is under the supervision of the licensed assisted living Program Administrator.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Provide support for medical needs which includes scheduling and accompany individuals for all routine well and sick-care appointments, help the individual to explain their symptoms when sick, and to understand and follow doctor's orders; assume the responsibility for following all doctors’ orders; assume the responsibility for following all doctor’s orders in providing care for individuals in service.
  2. Required to successfully complete the Board of Nursing approved medication class and maintain an annual recertification. Additionally, Residential Specialists may be required to complete specialty training in areas of insulin, etc., as appropriate to the individuals residing in the home.  Moreover, the Residential Specialist is responsible to administer medications as prescribed and monitor for any potential side-effects, reporting observed information to the prescribing physician.  Also, responsible to maintain current certification in First Aid/CPR/AED and Safety Care.
  3. Appropriately intervene in crisis situations and emergencies and make referrals to and seek consultation from other sources as needed.  Provide a safe home environment and complete required emergency drills as required by licensing and/or other governing entities.
  4. Provide the best life possible for all individuals served in each aspect of their lives by providing skill building and support to promote maximum independence for each individual according to their specific needs and in accordance with their Person Centered Plan. 
  5. Provide opportunities for each individual to explore integrative activities that are familiar as well as providing new experiences to expand their knowledge of the world in which they live promoting their development of relationships and natural supports.  Provide transportation, secure funds, and facilitating positive communication by teaching skills to further their independence and to provide safety supports.
  6. Maintain all required trainings are completed within compliance with Agency policy. A Residential Specialist is responsible for accurate, informative documentation reflecting the services and supports delivered to the individuals served.  Attend scheduled meetings, assessments, and provide information that informs the development of plans for the individuals served.
  7. Work independently and as part of a team to actively participate in daily activities to provide a loving, supportive home environment for the individuals served; must be able to work without direct supervision.

OTHER DUTIES: 

  • The employee will be able to work assigned hours which includes assigned overnights.  If the employee is assigned overnights, the employee will have an allotment of sleep time. The employee will acknowledge understanding of sleep policy and applicable pay related guidelines.
  • Perform such other duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge or willingness to develop an understanding of serious mental illness, developmental disabilities substance abuse and related conditions.
  • Good oral communication and computer skills.
  • Ability to interact with people in a supportive and therapeutic manner.
  • Willing to work flexible hours including overnight, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to work independently and with supervision.
  • Ability to operate a larger motor vehicle. 

 

 

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION REQUIRED:

At a minimum, the Residential Specialist-ALF will hold a high school diploma or equivalent

Valid driver's license with a safe driving record.

Be a registered medication technician or have the ability to complete and pass the state medication registration

Pass a Department of Social Service and Criminal background check

Pass an initial drug screen and complete random drug screenings if required
