JOB SUMMARY

Under close supervision Deputy Clerk I performs a variety of clerical and office functions. Answers a high volume of incoming telephone calls, assists the public and attorneys at the front counter by filing lawsuits and pleadings. Receipts court payments, and enters data into computer. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Perform a variety of general office support functions;

  • Answer high volume of telephone calls and respond to requests or transfers calls to appropriate parties or offices;

  • Enters required data into the computer to properly set up high volume of new lawsuits and relay pertinent information and instructions for service of process.;

  • Processes high volume of paperwork from the jail and probation;

  • Prepares a high volume of paperwork to be sent to the jail and probation;

  • Enters required data into computer to properly set up new citations;

  • Issues summons and subpoenas when requested;

  • Examines all paperwork for accuracy;

  • Receive pleadings from attorneys.

  • Interface with the public, attorneys, and judges while subsequently researching data and provide information requested.

  • Accepts, receives and/or collects payments for court costs and post payments into the appropriate computer system;

  • Processes large amounts of money with accuracy; and

  • Perform other assigned duties as requested.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK

  • High School Diploma;

  • Must be willing to participate in office education program; and 

  • Valid driver’s license.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of the principles and methods used in the specific office.

  • Skilled in the use of small office equipment, including copy machines and/or multi-line telephone systems.

  • Skilled in using computers for data entry, word processing, and/or accounting purposes.

  • Ability to organize and communicate effectively.

  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and an orientation towards customer service.

  • Ability to cooperate with fellow employees as team members. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, reach and manipulate objects, tools and/or controls. The position requires mobility. Duties may involve moving materials weighing up to 20 pounds on a regular basis. Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 50% of the work period while operating equipment, such as computer keyboard, mouse, calculator and similar machines. The position requires hearing, mental acuity, speaking, and visual acuity.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Most work is performed in a well-lighted, modern office setting with centrally controlled heating and air conditioning.
