ASSISTANT CHIEF ENGINEER - SHOREPLANT

SUMMARY

Responsible for all phases of assigned projects, ensuring the successful conclusion of all phases within an appropriate time and at appropriate cost.  Performs analysis to develop design options or recommendation for maintaining and improving, structures, processes and equipment.

Essential Functions

  1. Prepares or secures and reviews cost estimates.
  2. Compiles required cost and equipment information and writes appropriate requests.
  3. Responsible for all aspects of project work including design, CIR write –ups, developing contractor bid packages, overseeing project installation, cost tracking.
  4. Schedules repair, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools, and equipment to ensure continuous production operations.
  5. Provide training and start up assistance for new equipment as well as post project support.
  6. Coordinates activities of workers fabricating or modifying machines, tools, or equipment to manufacture new products or improve existing products.
  7. Directs maintenance activities on utility systems to provide continuous supply of heat, steam, electric power, gas, or air required for operations.
  8. Manages preventive and predictive maintenance program in conjunction with engineering and maintenance staff.
  9. Reviews production, quality control, and maintenance reports and statistics to plan and modify maintenance activities.
  10. Plans, develops, and implements new methods and procedures designed to improve operations, minimize operating costs, and effect greater utilization of labor and materials.
  11. Reviews new product plans and discusses equipment needs and modifications with design engineers and Research and Development Department.
  12. Confers with management, engineering, and quality control personnel to resolve maintenance problems and recommend measures to improve operations and conditions of machines and equipment.
  13. Responsible for researching and organizing energy reduction projects while working with energy firms for eligible rebates.

Additional Responsibilities

  1. May maintain records and other relevant documents pertaining to equipment and supplies.
  2. Performs other similar or related duties as requested or assigned.
  3. Acquire knowledge of Trident’s Environmental and Safety Policies by completing required training programs and performing designated work activities in accordance with training and procedures/work instructions.
  4. Notify designated personnel of any environmental and safety incidents, or risks not previously documented, in accordance with Environmental Awareness and or Safety training.

EDUCATION

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university, mechanical engineering preferred; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

EXPERIENCE 

Minimum 2-years maintenance project management experience, preferably in the food industry.  Must a proven successful record working within time restrictions. Experience with Process Safety Management preferred.                             

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers and reach with and arms hands. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, color vision and depth perception.
