ENGINEER - SHOREPLANT

SUMMARY

Repairs and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment such as: engines, motors, pneumatic tools, pumps, gear boxes, conveyor systems.

Essential Functions

  1. Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble.
  2. Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.
  3. Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.
  4. Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements using micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
  5. Repairs or replaces defective parts.
  6. Installs special functional and structural parts in devices.
  7. Lubricates and cleans parts, equipment, and machinery.
  8. Tests and adjusts equipment to meet performance specifications.
  9. Sets up and operates lathe, drill press, grinder, saws, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts.
  10. Sharpens and reshapes tools as necessary.
  11. Maintains, repairs and operates plant systems such as: refrigeration, power generation, boilers, potable water and waste treatment systems.
  12. Initiates purchase order for parts and machines.
  13. Maintains a flexible schedule to accommodate variable shifts ranging from 4-18 hours depending on maintenance workload.
  14. Understands and is able to implement safe work procedures.

Additional Responsibilities

  1. Performs other similar or related duties as requested or assigned.
  2. May participate and train with First Responder HazMat team.
  3. Acquire knowledge of Trident’s Environmental and Safety Policies by completing required training programs and performing designated work activities in accordance with training and procedures/work instructions.
  4. Notify designated personnel of any environmental and safety incidents, or risks not previously documented, in accordance with Environmental Awareness and or Safety training.

High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.  Basic mechanical knowledge in food industry preferred.

Education:

One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:

Three to six months related experience or training.  Familiarity with hydraulics, pneumatics, conveyors and bagging machines preferred.

Special Training/Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence; and ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume; and able to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.  Ability to operate a variety of hand tools to include the following: welding machines, cutting torches, and power tools including but not limited to: pipe or tube cutters, power drills, power saws, pullers, wrenches, screw drivers, sockets, ratchets, grinders, pry bars, hammers, punches, measuring devices, and chisels.

Work Environment:    While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; extreme cold and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Physical Demands:    While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The employee must also be able to work 13 hour shifts regularly with occasional extended shifts not to exceed 18 hours.

 Mental Activities:    While performing duties of this job the employee will frequently engage in teamwork.  The employee will occasionally be required to use interpersonal and customer service skills.  The employee will occasionally need to speak and read English.
