FLEET MECHANIC - AK

SUMMARY

Operates and maintains a variety of fleet equipment such as gas, diesel and propane powered rolling stock including trucks, forklifts, cranes, and passenger vehicles by performing the following duties:

Essential Functions

  1. Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble.
  2. Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.
  3. Repairs or replaces defective parts.
  4. Lubricates and cleans parts, equipment, and machinery.
  5. Tests and adjusts equipment to meet performance specifications.
  6. Sets up and operates lathe, drill press, grinder, saws, and/or other metalworking tools to make and repair parts.
  7. Repairs and maintains gas, diesel and propane powered rolling stock including trucks, forklifts, cranes, man lifts and passenger vehicles. 
  8. Repairs and maintains hydraulic systems associated with forklifts, mobile cranes, dock cranes, boats and heavy equipment.
  9. Repairs and maintains electrical systems associated with auto’s, forklifts, mobile cranes, boats and heavy equipment.
  10. Repairs and maintains tires on all sizes of vehicle and rim type.
  11. Repairs and maintains marine hydraulics.
  12. Repairs and maintains outboard motors and small engines.
  13. Repairs, maintains and replaces alternators, starters, belts, hoses, hydraulic lines, differentials, axles, etc.
  14. Initiates purchase order for parts and machines.
  15. reads and understands English and communicates well with others.
  16. Understand and able to implement safe work procedures.
  17. Maintains a flexible schedule to accommodate variable shifts ranging from 4-18 hours depending on maintenance workload.

Additional Responsibilities

  1. Performs other similar or related duties as requested or assigned.
  2. May participate and train with First Responder Haz Mat team.
  3. Acquire knowledge of Trident’s Environmental and Safety Policies by completing required training programs and performing designated work activities in accordance with training and procedures/work instructions.
  4. Notify designated personnel of any environmental and safety incidents, or risks not previously documented, in accordance with Environmental Awareness and or Safety training.

Experience:

  1. Three to six months related experience or training. 
  2. Familiarity with hydraulics, pnuematics, conveyors and bagging machines preferred.
  3. Basic mechanical knowledge in food industry preferred.

Education:

Four year degree (B.A.); four to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Valid State-issued Driver’s License

Special Training/Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.  Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes and airborne particles. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock and toxic or causitc chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.  The employee is frequently required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, as well as talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to taste or smell.  The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.  The employee must also be able to work 13 hour shifts regularly with occasional extended shifts not to exceed 18 hours.
