BARGE OPERATOR

Operates and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment while working under the guidelines set in place by management to ensure the quality of production processes, materials, and products by performing the following duties:

Essential Functions:

  1. Conducts standardized tests on products and materials to ensure compliance with internal standards, customer specifications and international, federal and state regulations.
  2. Documents data obtained during all production activities, consistent with HACCP standards and company policies and procedures.
  3. Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate any cause of trouble.
  4. Repairs or replaces defective parts.
  5. Audits production facility and reviews employee behavior for proper sanitation.
  6. Communicates significant issues or developments identified during production activities and provides recommended process improvements to Lead/Management.
  7. Lubricates and cleans parts, equipment, and machinery.
  8. Maintains a working knowledge of company, government and industry quality assurance codes and standards.
  9. Understand and able to implement safe work procedures.

Additional Responsibilities:

  1. Identifies work related problems and recommends effective solutions as appropriate.
  2. Performs other similar or related duties as requested or assigned.

Education:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training in Food Production environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  1. Valid driver’s license
  2. Forklift certification

Special Training/Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.  Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.  The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.  The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.  The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision and depth perception.

Mental Activities:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use teamwork skills.  The employee will occasionally use interpersonal and customer service skills.
