Camp Seymour Summer Challenge Course Specialist

Starting Wage: $250+/week, depending on qualifications

Date of Employment:  June 8 – August 22, 2020

This is a Residential position that includes room and board.                                                                                                                                                                   

Would you like to change lives by providing an amazing experience for every camper? At Camp Seymour you get to teach kids self-reliance, a love for nature and the outdoors, and the development of attitudes and practices that build character and leadership – all amidst the fun of camp fires, canoeing, archery, talent shows, and meaningful relationships.

If hired for this position you will supervise and maintain safe, enjoyable, age-appropriate challenge adventure programs and events.  You will provide leadership, instruction and motivation for program participants on the challenge course. 

You will spend your days outside laughing, talking, and participating in camp challenge course activities.  By the end of the summer you will be the adult role model who encourages creativity, instills confidence, self-esteem, a life of adventure, and a sense of belonging. 

In this position you will be able to use your skills to:

  • Build Relationships:
    • Maintain weekly observations on staff performance; give staff positive and constructive feedback; communicate significant observations to direct supervisors.
    • Supervises challenge course and zip facilitators. 
    • Work effectively with all members of a diverse team.
  • Make great decisions:
    • Monitor challenge course/zip equipment and supplies; repair and resupply as necessary.
    • Seek out and use staff and camper feedback to improve programs and services.
  • Provide quality results:
    • Work with leadership staff & all staff to coordinate and implement overall camp program.
    • Plan, organize, and facilitate all challenge adventure programming for Day Camp, Overnight Camp and visiting groups.
    • Provides a quality experience to campers & families focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. 
  • Be a role model and teach values:
    • Serve as a cabin counselor when coverage is needed.
    • Know the name and support the dream of every child in the program.
    • Share experiences and provide training to assist others with their development.



Are you a good fit?

  • I am at least 21 years old.
  • I have worked at a camp for at least one season.
  • I have at least two seasons of challenge course experience.
  • I have ACCT II certification (preferred).
  • I have current CPR and First Aid
  • I want to make the difference in the life of a child this summer.
