Manager, Pricing

Job Description



The Manager of Pricing is responsible for developing a competitive organizational pricing strategy to drive financial performance across all categories (sales and margin). The role manages the Pricing Team and uses the analysis of historic, industry, market, consumer and competitive data to drive pricing decisions. The Manager of Pricing collaborates with Finance, Merchandise, Marketing and Store Operations to communicate the organizational pricing strategy and plan to execute the strategy. The position manages the entire pricing lifecycle to support individual categories with front-line, promotional and markdown pricing.


  • Manage the Pricing Team and provide day-to-day direction and guidance to direct reports
  • Develop and present the pricing strategy to all levels within the organization to gain buy-in and align team’s understanding of their roles and responsibilities in executing the plan
  • Develop and plan pricing timelines to align with the business trends, the Merchandise Calendar, promotions/marketing initiatives, cost increases, and store workload
  • Proactively identify and quickly adapt the pricing strategy to competitive factors and market conditions
  • Develop and test new and innovative pricing initiatives to generate competitive advantage
  • Manage the day-to-day pricing activities across all product categories – including execution of all price changes down to the store level
  • Develop and manage pricing across price zones, accounting for regionality or test initiatives
  • Continuously evaluate pricing performance and implement calculated changes within the overall strategy to achieve business goals 



Skills Required

  • Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written
  • Strong analytical and forecasting skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel and able to fulfill the roles and responsibilities of the position using this software as a primary tool
  • SQL or other query writing experience preferred
  • Ability to lead and manage a team in a rapidly changing environment
  • Ability to establish and improve processes and wire through the organization

Education & Experience:

  • BA/BS preferred
  • 3-5 years in the pricing industry
  • Experience in reviewing and analyzing retail data (Nielsen, IRI, etc.)
  • Retail industry and project management experience is strongly preferred
