Essential Functions: Boat yard worker needed for SEASONAL position in Alaska. This job runs from approx. 04/15-07/31. Room, board, and flight to and from work site provided. The job requires you to work at least 10 hours a day, 7 days a week, at our multi-use facility. (Retail store/boatyard/bunkhouse facility) Alaska overtime rules apply; you will be paid time and a half for hours worked over 8 per day and over 40 per week. We are seeking a “Jack of All Trades”! Someone that is, or can be, forklift certified to help with loading and unloading freight from containers. Also responsible for general warehousing functions in addition to helping pull, launch, and block commercial gillnet boats during the Bristol Bay fishing season. This is not summer camp! You will work long hours; this is an intense short term position. Living conditions are basic dormitory style; you have your own room but will share a bathroom.

 

Additional Responsibilities:

Other duties include, but are not limited to, trash runs to the dump, keeping yard clean, and freight runs to the post office. Some basic repair and maintenance skills needed to help maintain facility, forklift and other equipment.

Education:

High School; GED

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Valid Driver’s License

Forklift Certified (or able to be certified)

Special Training/Skills:

Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences. Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement.

Work Environment:

Must be able to routinely lift 50 pounds and be able to work in any kind of weather; day or night. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions, mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
