The Business Manager is responsible for the operational and financial success of a home club and additional locations in a designated region.

Town Sports International is the largest gym chain in the Northeast region with more than 180 locations spanning numerous markets including locations in California, Florida and Puerto Rico. We operate under our local brands of New York Sports Clubs, Boston Sports Clubs, Washington Sports Clubs, Philadelphia Sports Clubs, Palm Beach Sports Clubs, Around the Clock Fitness, Lucille Roberts, Total Woman Gym + Spa, and LIV Fitness.

More about this role:
The Business Manager oversees all aspects of operations to increase revenue and minimize operating expenses. In this role you act as General Manager in your home club, if assigned, while overseeing a designated set of satellite clubs depending on your market’s needs. The complexity of a region and the potential total revenue will determine the assignment of aggregates. Within your satellite clubs your responsibilities include driving all revenue departments, staffing support, expense control, facility management and customer service. Within these key areas you will train and develop the General Manager so they have all the tools to be successful and then provide ongoing support and accountability. The Business Manager role achieves success through embodying our core competencies (Create the TSI Environment, Build a High Performing Team, Achieve Measurable Results).

Responsibilities include:
- Modeling and promoting our guiding principles through the Clubhouse Rules.
- Reviewing and adhering to all TSI documents including but not limited to policies and procedures, employee handbook, state supplement, codes of conduct, etc.
- Performs a Member Experience Walkthrough (MEW) daily to ensure all member facing issues are dealt with in a timely basis. Partner where necessary and fully own all club issues in both your home and satellite clubs.
- Displaying a positive energy while engaging with staff and members at all times.
- Implementing TSI’s policies and procedures to provide the best customer experience possible.
- Constantly recruiting top talent in the health and fitness industry.
- Maintaining an active lifestyle and passion for fitness.

- Being a hands-on manager by spending time on the floor interacting with members and staff.

Responsibilities include:

- Hiring and properly developing staff members for home club and high level positions in satellite clubs.
- Always maintaining open and effective communication with staff.
- Developing self and others by utilizing the training and development resources provided by TSI.
- Continuously work to improve and overcome areas of opportunity for self and staff.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Achieve Measurable Results
Successfully and consistently exceeds goals that drive the member, employee and business categories of the organization; actions reflect a dedication to surpassing the expectations of both members and employees.
Responsibilities include:
- Always providing customer service focused solutions to members.
- Setting direct and clear SMART goals for self and team.
- Achieving net member gain as well as net EFT to support revenue growth.
- Holding staff accountable to meeting and exceeding sales and revenue goals.
- Identifying and removing barriers to driving sales.
- Flawlessly completing all aspects of Sales Management and driving membership sales results that exceed last year’s results and hit targets in both home and satellite clubs.
- Managing all aspects of the retention plan to achieve retention targets in both home and satellite clubs.
- Through driving new sales and retention, achieving a positive net member gain each month in both home and satellite clubs.
- Exceeding other financial targets mainly total revenue and EBITDA.
Required Skills and Experience
- College Degree in business, marketing or a related field preferred.
- 5+ years experience in sales, sales management, multi-unit management and the fitness industry.
- Ability to proficiently use our POS and membership system, timekeeping any other computer programs required to meet the business needs of the customer and TSI.
- Child & Adult AED/CPR certified.
- Prior experience analyzing Profit & Loss statements required.
- Proven ability to drive results through others.
- High level of communication.
- Attention to detail and well organized.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Physical demands include ability to lift up to 20 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations, walk through all areas of the club, climbing stairs (where applicable), and bending and lifting (e.g. picking up towels, restacking weights, moving equipment as needed). The company reserves the right to change them as business needs require and that jobs may require other tasks as assigned to the employee by the company.
Scheduling Requirements
Due to the nature of the business, Town Sports International has specific scheduling guidelines for this position.
- Team Members are required to work 3 out of the last 4 days of the month, with the last day of the month being mandatory.
- TSI does not authorize vacation time in the months of January or September.
- This position does not have a set schedule month-to-month and is subject to changes based on the needs of the business.
