POSITION TITLE:  Food Service Worker

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, you are responsible for ensuring that all of our customers, Sky Lakes Medical Center employees, visitors, and patients are provided with outstanding quality food and service.  You are required to meet and maintain high standards of food safety, quality, presentation, and service.  Must comply with department and hospital dress code and personal appearance policies.  A food service department is teamwork dependent, and as such you are required to be a contributing member to the team.  Dedication to Sky Lakes Medical Center and the department’s mission is essential for you to accomplish the degree of customer satisfaction required.  Scheduled shifts and days off may vary, per work schedule.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Ensures a high degree of patient satisfaction regarding timeliness of response, and manner in which patients and customers are treated.  Consistently provides excellent customer service to internal business partners and external customers.  Accepts responsibility for solving problems to the customers’ satisfaction in a timely, effective, and respectful manner.
  • Must be able to comprehensively understand therapeutic diets.
  • Prepares food for patient, cafeteria, and catering functions following instruction from the Production team and Chef in a manner that promotes quality and food safety.
  • Setup and breakdown of dish washing area. Assemble/disassemble dish machine as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary working area.
  • Actively participates in maintaining quality assurance procedures throughout shift.  Routinely tests effectiveness of sanitizer concentration, water temperatures, food temperatures, refrigerator/freezer temperatures and alerts management when temps are out of range.
  • Supports kitchen, café and dish staff by assisting with other tasks as needed.
  • May be responsible for all aspects of the cafeteria and dining room, stock, nourishments, patient meals, or dish room depending on shift.
  • Follow health and safety standards at all times to assure cross contamination never occurs.  Report kitchen accidents or violations of food safety codes.
  • Meets all expectations of general and specific job tasks.

MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Minimum Requirements

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:

Excellent verbal communication skills required to communicate with our customers; Ability to follow and understand detailed written and verbal instructions; Ability to organize and prioritize work while still meeting the needs of customers as they arise;  Ability to respond to changes in pace productively and efficiently; Ability to attend to detail; Ability to develop a sound understanding of food production techniques and therapeutic diets; Ability to independently complete basic math; and Ability to work with a minimum of supervision. 

PREFERRED:

Six months food service experience. Knowledge of sanitation guidelines or ServSafe certification.

NON-REG CERT:

Oregon Food Handler's card or equivalent required by end of month from 30 days of hire and maintained.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:

Medium physical demand level.  Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., push and maneuver carts weighing up to 350 lbs.  Ability to stand for an extended period of up to 3 hours continuously.  Ability to ambulate with hot items in a safe manner.  Ability to perform repetitive tasks for up to 3 hours continuously.  Must be able to tolerate extremes of noise, temperature, and humidity.  Must be able to work with others in congested areas.  Reaching, handling food, touching food, talking, hearing, and seeing is a significant part of the job.  Must be able to work without direct supervision.  Must be able to meet set timelines and work under pressure. Must be able to operate equipment needed to complete tasks per job description.  Must be able to see food preparation tasks to completion. 

PAY RANGE: $11.75 - $17.46
