The Video Editor, reporting to the Video Producer, is a part time role. It is multi-faceted, hands-on creative role that will help to shape the visual language of video content across the LA Phil’s various brands (Los Angeles Philharmonic, Hollywood Bowl, Walt Disney Concert Hall, The Ford, YOLA). The ideal candidate will bring a depth of experience with visual storytelling from behind the camera to the editing bay. This role will require a highly collaborative team player with exemplary visual and auditory judgment.


Position Elements:

  • Manage all elements of original video content with a focus on production and post-production, including capturing video and audio, narrative storytelling, promotional and institutional videos, audio post, motion graphics, and distribution.
  • Help manage internal and external production crews, locations, and schedules; and support interview captures with VIPs when necessary.
  • Understand LA Phil’s strategic brand messaging and tone (both marketing and institutional) and conceptualize and execute video content that advances those narratives.
  • Ensure projects are held to a high creative standard and delivered on time.
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Digital, Social Media and PR teams to develop and execute video content strategy for the LA Phil, Hollywood Bowl, and The Ford websites, social and digital platforms and video series.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally across departments and with stakeholders to solicit input, respond to, and integrate feedback.
  • Ensure rights and licensing requirements are met for each project.
  • Help to manage and maintain video assets, gear inventory, video archive and security.
  • Source, edit, and clear rights for internal video assets that need to be shared with outside stakeholders (news media or artist projects).
  • Embrace emerging video platforms, capture and production techniques including 360 and VR.

Minimum Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in video production
  • Strong cinematography skills, including gaffing, and camera support and stabilization
  • Strong storytelling abilities, keen editorial judgment, and proven motion graphics skills
  • Skilled in Premiere, After Effects, Prelude, Media Encoder, Davinci Resolve, Photoshop, and Audition or other digital audio workstations
  • Strong auditory background preferred; hands-on experience with sound mixing, on-location recording, and music supervision a plus
  • Flexible schedule on nights and weekends to be available for concert/artist filming opportunities as business need dictates
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Considerable tact required in most duties or tasks performed to achieve results
  • Must be highly organized, efficient, and proactive; able to leverage all internal resources to secure relevant information
  • Live performance experience and a passion for music and concerts; working knowledge of classical music preferred
  • Experience with live video/broadcast for music a plus
  • High awareness of camera and sound technologies, digital trends, and innovations; ability to master new concepts quickly and adapt to emerging practices
  • Copy editing, proofreading, fact checking, research and/or writing as required
  • A proven ability to work under tight deadlines and facilitate quick turnarounds on projects
  • Awareness and dedication to creating community connections across diverse audiences
  • and commitment to engage in and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the staff, vendors, and within interactions with the surrounding community is a must
  • Secondary language fluency is a plus

This position will require you to interact with employees, patrons, vendors and others who may or may not be vaccinated or recently tested.
