Survey Party Chief

This position is full-time, nonexempt, classified and covered as defined by The Board of Commissioners of the County of Allen Employee Handbook.
Hours are 7:00 am - 4:00 pm; 40 hours/week; overtime as required
Under the direction of the Chief of Survey, the Survey Party Chief is responsible for supervising survey field crew and work with Chief of Survey on various survey jobs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Primarily responsible for relocating section corner witness posts and signs when road widening is occurring.
- Responsible for gathering data for county drainage projects.
- Gathers data for various drainage problems, issues, or complaints.
- Responsible for assisting in perpetuation of underground section corner stones.
- Provides on-site inspection for new storm system installation.
- Checks on recently completed projects to ensure drainage is still functional.
- Performs all other duties as assigned, including overtime as required.
REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma or GED and two years of experience in surveying, Global Positioning Systems (GPS)/Mapping, or related field
- Valid Driver's License to operate a county vehicle
- Knowledge of survey data collection techniques to compile traffic data
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to work with coworkers and citizens
- Strong attention to detail to be accurate and consistent when collecting data
- Strong time management skills to manage office and field work
- Strong computer skills with the ability to use Microsoft Office and other job related software
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The Survey Party Chief works in and out of an office environment with some standing, walking, lifting up to sixty pounds, bending, reaching overhead, typing, transcription/proofreading, and exposure to dangerous equipment, chemicals, noise, traffic, and walking on rough/uneven surfaces. Frequent attention to detail, monitoring equipment, detailed inspection, and exposure to extreme temperatures are to be expected.
