FSQA MANAGER-FACTORY TRAWLERS

Job Summary:  Plans, coordinates, and directs food safety and quality assurance (FSQA) program designed to ensure safety and quality of products consistent with established standards by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

Essential Functions:

  1. Create, maintain, and communicate vessel quality assurance objectives and activities.
  2. Manage product inspection and environmental testing programs across multiple process and product types: fillet block, pollock and hake surimi seafood, roe, mince, and others.
  3. Review data obtained during quality assurance activities to ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and specifications.
  4. Develop effective corrective actions to nonconformances identified during quality assurance activities, including customer complaints, Facility Incident Reports, daily process deviations, and audit results.
  5. Train and supervise FSQA team to complete, log, and file daily QA reports.
  6. Communicate significant issues and developments identified during quality assurance activities to vessel management and Seattle FSQA team.
  7. Prepare and present technical and program information to the vessel and Seattle management team.
  8. Develop new approaches to solve problems identified during quality assurance activities.
  9. Maintain a working knowledge of government and industry quality assurance codes and standards. (GFSI (BRC), HACCP, ADEC, USDC, etc.)
  10. Facilitate third party audit activities on the vessel. (GFSI (BRC), HACCP, ADEC, USDC, etc.)
  11. Engage in key professional development opportunities (training) during the offseason.

Additional Responsibilities:

  1. Performs other similar or related duties as requested or assigned.
  2. May assist in loading and unloading operations at the start and end of all trips.
  3. Work with stakeholders (corporate, purser, etc.) to maintain vessel recall program.
  4. Maintain Kosher status of products produced as applicable.

Minimum Qualifications: Two years supervisory experience in the seafood industry or Quality Assurance field.  Knowledge of HACCP regulations, Food Safety, and audit procedures required. Need to possess or earn HACCP certification before assuming role as manager.

Preferred Experience: Four+ years supervisory experience and/or training in a food production/quality assurance environment. Bachelor's degree in food related field.

Special Training/Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of email, spreadsheet software, word processing software and presentation software.  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Work Environment:    While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Physical Demands:    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Vessel-specific duties, if applicable, include being capable of boarding and departing the vessel without assistance by walking up or climbing a gangplank, stern ramp and/or a vertical ladder.  Must also be able to board/exit from a dock, skiff, or a boat.  Must be capable of donning an immersion suit in one minute or less without assistance.  Must be capable of working long and variable work shifts for extended periods of time.  Shifts may range from 4 – 18 hours but are typically 12 to 14 hours (with breaks).  The length varies depending on project demands and travel requirements.
