QC MGR - AK VESSEL

Plans, coordinates, and directs quality assurance program designed to ensure quality production of products consistent with established standards by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors during the processing season.

Essential Functions

  1. Formulates and maintains quality assurance objectives complementary to corporate policies and goals.
  2. Interprets quality assurance philosophy to key personnel in organization.
  3. Performs quality engineering reviews of design documentation for compliance with stated requirements, including vendor quality manuals and company quality records.
  4. Applies statistical process control (SPC) methods for analyzing data to evaluate the current process and process changes.
  5. Decides whether to accept a product or continue business with a vendor based on a review by the quality assurance engineer.
  6. Reviews all data obtained during all quality assurance activities to ensure consistency with company policies and procedures.
  7. Develops new approaches to solve problems identified during quality assurance activities.
  8. Keeps management team abreast of significant issues or developments identified during quality assurance activities and actions being taken to improve the situation.
  9. Prepares and presents technical and program information to the management team.
  10. Directs technical and administrative workers engaged in quality assurance activities.
  11. Maintains a working knowledge of government and industry quality assurance codes and standards, and assures adherence to these codes and standards.
  12. Plays an active role on quality management teams within the organization.
  13. Designs and implements quality assurance training programs to key personnel in conjunction with managers.
  14. Investigates and adjusts customer complaints regarding quality.
  15. Ensures the accuracy and quality of product labeling.
  16. Develops and maintains the facility Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) program
  17. Supervises the regulatory and external audits of the facility

 

Additional Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for the recall program for the facility.
  2. Maintains kosher certification of all products produced in the facility.
  3. Performs other similar or related duties as requested or assigned.

4 -10 years supervisory experience in a food production/quality assurance environment.

Education:

Master's degree (M. A.) or equivalentor equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Must be HACCP certified.

Experience:

Four to ten years supervisory experience in the seafood industry/Quality Assurance field.  Knowledge of HACCP regulations, Food Safety, and Audit procedures required.

Special Training/Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of email, spreadsheet software, word processing software and presentation software.  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Work Environment:    While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Physical Demands:    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Vessel-specific duties, if applicable, include being capable of boarding and departing the vessel without assistance by walking up or climbing a gangplank, stern ramp and/or a vertical ladder.  Must also be able to board/exit from a dock, skiff, or a boat.  Must be capable of donning an immersion suit in one minute or less without assistance.Must be capable of working long and variable work shifts for extended periods of time.  Shifts may range from 4 – 18 hours, but are typically 12 to 14 hours (with breaks).  The length varies depending on project demands and travel requirements.
