Meat/Seafood Butcher

  1. Exceed our customers’ evolving expectations by preparing the freshest quality product while providing World Class customer service and a pleasant and rewarding shopping experience within both the meat and seafood areas
  2. Ability to represent Big Y by working together with fellow Big Y employees to deliver an exceptional customer experience.
  3. Receive, process, cut, trim, scrape, package, tie, wrap, weigh, price and label meat products more than 50% of the time on average.
  4. Must have completed meat/seafood butcher and culinary training program and or have passed a meat skills test.
  5. Process special customer requests, including special cuts of meats and seafood as necessary.
  6. Maintain supplies and identify all cuts of meat and seafood.
  7. Collaborate with management in decision-making, direction and implementation to ensure that operational and sales goals are met.
  8. Provide training as needed through product knowledge and expertise.
  9. Order, receive, prepare, weigh, finish, slice, price, package, merchandise, and stock product as needed.
  10. Maintain proper department conditions (e.g., shelf, case, sales floor, backroom, freezer, and cooler, etc.).
  11. Maintain inventory and order adequate product as assigned (e.g., in stock position, inventory management, days on hand, shrink).
  12. Operate, clean, and maintain equipment/machinery, tools, and workstations.
  13. Periodically oversee and direct workflow as assigned.
  14. Engage in and encourage continuous improvement through ideas and innovation (e.g., My Big Y Voice).

  1. Previous perishable foods handling and/or preparation experience preferred.
  2. Ability to represent A Culture of Caring and The Pursuit of ExcellenceÔ through the support of Big Y’s Mission & Vision.
  3. Ability to demonstrate a passion for food through interactive sales techniques.
  4. Must project a clean and professional appearance.
  5. Must be a team player with a positive attitude and businesslike conduct.
  6. Ability to operate within company policies, procedures, and standards.
  7. Ability to work a flexible schedule in accordance with the needs of the store.
  8. Attention to detail, accuracy, ability to prioritize and follow-through.
  9. Possess excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  10. Ability to learn and utilize computer applications.
  11. Must be 18 years of age.
