Stockroom Assistant

Description of position:
Gathers frames and lenses for optical orders. Traces patient-provided frame to plot lens shape for edging. Sends on production line trays that are complete and ready to produce. Stocks incoming lenses and frames.

Daily tasks and responsibilities:

  • Gathers and analyzes optical work ticket with supplied frame from lab.
  • Reads working tickets and places in trays.
  • Scans bar code from working ticket and tray to link together in computerized production system.
  • Reads work ticket and pulls frames from numerically placed bins on shelves.
  • Scans bar code from frame and tray to verify frame and reduce inventory of lab.
  • Takes tray with out-of-stock frames to short order area of stockroom.
  • Sorts trays on working table for lens picking by aisles.
  • Scans bar code of lenses and tray to verify and reduce inventory of lab.
  • Unwraps lenses and frames; sends completed trays on production line to be produced.
  • Places order for lenses out of stock and places trays in area of stock room awaiting delivery.
  • Opens boxes sent by warehouses; verifies warehouse shipping report; removes enclosed frames from optical order; scans bar code from tray and work ticket to link them together.
  • Operates 4 tracers; verifies tracers on a regular basis and calibrates if needed.
  • Scans tray and inserts frame in tracer for each lens.
  • Verifies tracing on screen; compares the circumference for auto-edging.
  • Scans trays to validate tracer data and print work ticket.
  • Sorts trays on working table for lens picking by aisles.
  • Scans bar code of lenses and tray to verify and reduce inventory of lab.
  • Places orders for out-of-stock lenses.
  • Unwrap lenses and frames; sends completed trays on production line to be produced.
  • Traces 10 frames of new SKUs; fills out a report to verify the constancy of data and enters into a standardized database.
  • Scans trays requiring coating; packs and ships to coating centre.
  • Counts and checks incoming lens and frame orders coming from vendors and depot; scans UPC code with handheld scanning gun; frames need to be entered in as 400.
  • Fills any short order tray on incoming lenses and frames, then stocks on supply shelves by item number.
  • Check in the DVI system with the cabaret # where it is to be able to add the frame provided by the warehouses.
  • Make requests for the calculation.


Non-Essential Functions and Tasks:

  • Assists in other departments of the laboratory as necessary.


Qualifications (Costco-specific or industry-specific skills that candidates must possess):

  • Education/Training:    High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Licenses/Certifications:    None
  • Experience:        Experience in optical lab is preferred.
  • Knowledge/Skills:    Manual dexterity is required. Basic mathematical abilities and ability to read and compare numbers are required.
