Camp Seymour Summer Media and Mission Specialist

Job Description


Dates:  June 8 - August 22, 2020

Wage:  $275+ per week

This is a Residential position that includes room and board.



Under the direction of the mission emphasis director, deliver mission emphasis programming. Additionally, work with Marketing and Communications.  Provides a quality experience to campers and families focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.  Represents the YMCA and self in a professional manner of safety and fun.



  • Under the direction of the mission emphasis director, work with staff and/or cabin groups to develop morning inspirations.
  • Prepare and deliver mission thoughts, stories or songs at campfires.
  • Assume a leadership role on delivery and implementation of Rags program.
  • Responsible for care and organization of the rags.  Develop a rag check-out and tracking system. (Who is getting their rag tied and by whom?)
  • Develop improvements to the rag program.  Create and track ways for us to have “touches” throughout the year with raggers.



  • Take daily camp photos (20-50 quality photos per day), or appropriately facilitate the delegation of this task
  • Upload these photos daily to Camp’s Picasa album.
  • Create or acquire and post at least one blog per week.
  • Facilitate cabin photos.  Submit photos online to Costco/Target, and pick-up photos in time to distribute with camper reports and awards.
  • Ensure that cabin group or “trip” photos are taken for every teen/trip program, and have these photos printed in time for check-out.
  • Under the director of the marketing and development director, make daily updates to social media, including Instagram, Facebook and/or Twitter.
  • Facilitate the collection of camper stories and Values Award nominees.  Work with marketing director and senior camp director to create a system for collection.   
  • Support branch-wide communication standards and systems.


Staff/Volunteer Development:

  • Serve as a resource for staff for cabin embers activities.
  • Encourage leaders to participate in the Rag program – set goals, positive life choices, etc.
  • Be a resource for staff spiritual development.
  • Maintain open communication and proactively work to build strong relationships with all staff. 
  • Be accessible and available to staff; let staff know where and when to find you.


Financial Development and Philanthropy:

  • Meet performance measurement through annual giving, major gifts, and/or endowment by telling the Y story and raising charitable dollars to fulfill our mission.





  • Age 20+.
  • Two summers previous camp staff experience or equivalent. 
  • Background in journalism, communications and/or photography.
  • Integrity, patience, adaptability, sense of humor, enthusiasm, and a commitment to serve youth.
  • Musical talent a plus.
  • Specialized and practical knowledge of/ experience in: camp leadership and program development ability and motivation.
  • Human relation skills: Ability to train, motivate, support, share insights and ideas with staff; communicate openly with supervisor; organize, facilitate, and evaluate camp activities; support and connect with campers; perform duties as specified in job description and by supervisor.
  • Sensitivity to the needs of families including adults and children.
  • Current First Aid and CPR for duration of the season strongly preferred.
  • Complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on first day.  Complete other online and in-person training as required.
