Camp Seymour Summer Waterfront Specialist

Starting Wage: $300+/week, depending on qualifications

Date of Employment:  June 8 – August 22, 2019

This is a Residential position that includes room and board.
Would you like to change lives by providing an amazing experience for every camper?  At Camp Seymour you get to teach kids self-reliance, a love for nature and the outdoors, and the development of attitudes and practices that build character and leadership – all amidst the fun of camp fires, canoeing, archery, talent shows, and meaningful relationships.

If hired for this position you will supervise and maintain safe, enjoyable, age-appropriate waterfront programs and events. You will supervise boating instructors and lifeguards and provide progressive instruction in waterfront activities. You will work with leadership staff and all staff to coordinate and implement overall camp program.

You will spend your days outside laughing, talking, and participating in camp aquatics activities.  By the end of the summer you will be the adult role model who encourages creativity, instills confidence, self-esteem, a life of adventure, and a sense of belonging. 

In this position you will be able to use your skills to:

    • Seek out and use staff and camper feedback to improve programs and services.
    • Anticipate and take action to meet the needs of campers.

    • Work effectively with all members of a diverse team.
    • Know the name and support the dream of every child in the program.
  • Provide quality results:
    • Monitor waterfront equipment and supplies; repair and resupply as necessary.
    • Plan, organize, and facilitate all waterfront programming for Day Camp, Overnight Camp and visiting groups.
    • Provide a quality experience to campers & families focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. 
  • Develop Others:
    • Share experiences and provide training to assist others with their development.
    • Serve as a cabin counselor when coverage is needed.



Are you a good fit?

  • I am at least 21 years old.
  • I have worked at a camp for at least one season.
  • I have experience teaching boating and/or two years of personal boating experience.
  • Current Small Craft Safety Certification or YMCA Lifeguard/Red Cross Lifeguard certification (or the ability to obtain these certifications during staff training).
  • I have Washington State Boaters’ License or will have before the start of staff training.
  • I want to make the difference in the life of a child this summer.
