Internship - Human Resources

As part of Wakefern’s Human Resources Division, the Human Resources Intern will be exposed to many facets of our organization including internal corporate divisions, retail Members and stores, as well as our external partners.

 

The HR intern will gain an understanding of the needs of the numerous business units and customers the Human Resources Division partners with each day.  Additionally, the Human Resources Intern will learn firsthand that the success of our organization is dependent on its number one asset, its people!

 

In this role, the HR intern will lend assistance in two key focus areas. The first will be to provide ongoing support of the Summer Internship Program through managing the candidate application process, recruitment, and event coordination.  The second aspect of this role will be to support the Corporate University team with learning and development opportunities for Wakefern and our four banners, ShopRite, PriceRite, The Fresh Grocer, and Dearborn Food Market.

 

An ideal candidate for this role is an outgoing individual who takes initiative on project work.  We are looking for someone with a career interest in Human Resources who is available approximately 20 hours per week, beginning March 2, 2020 and available full time beginning mid-May through to August 2020.

 

 

Responsibilities are inclusive of but not limited to:

  • Screen resumes and applications for Wakefern’s Summer Internship Program
  • Organize and plan professional development events for Wakefern interns  
  • Assist with onboarding and orientation of approximately 90 interns
  • Design and draft newsletter that outlines summer internship program
  • Provide onsite support to our ShopRite and PriceRite Members and stores, if needed
  • Assist with the enhancement of existing training initiatives and rewards & recognition programs
  • Support general recruiting efforts such as career fairs or other on-campus events, as well as working with our various professional affiliations
  • Provide general support to the Human Resources team
  • Candidate must be available the 1st weekend in June to support NJ Special Olympics

 

 

To be considered, a candidate must meet the minimum qualifications of the program:

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must have completed 24 college credits with a 3.0 cumulative GPA or better
  • Will be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate school for Fall of 2020
  • Successful completion of a substance abuse test is required
  • Strong MS Office skills (Excel, Word and PowerPoint required. Knowledge of Lotus Notes and Access a plus)
  • Valid driver's license and flexibility with regard to travel required
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical and customer service skills with the ability to multitask and manage time effectively
  • Excellent communication skills (written, oral and presentation)
  • Ability to exhibit proper business etiquette when dealing with all levels of the organization
  • Previous work experience in a retail environment is beneficial
