Summary:

The Merchandise Buyer is responsible for selecting product in line with category strategies to drive category performance (sales, COGS, margin $, inventory productivity and overall category growth). The Buyer leverages technical expertise to identify product that meets the assortment strategy.  In addition, the buyer is responsible for sourcing exclusive and own branded product in-line with portfolio strategy.  The Buyer must be able to build strong relationships with internal and external contacts and collectively collaborate to introduce new product into the organization.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Leverage industry knowledge, trends and Category Lead research to source new product that will drive category performance (sales, COGS, margin $, inventory productivity and overall category growth)
  • Present new product proposals to members of senior leadership
  • Secure greater allocated products
  • Facilitate the sale and negotiation of new product securing strong cost of goods
  • Achieve sales and cost reduction targets for selected items
  • Develop strategic relationships with key suppliers for early knowledge of new trends and product; early and exclusive access to new product for first-to-market implementation; differentiated product to create a competitive advantage
  • Managing day-to-day operational inquiries and issues from suppliers
  • Perform competitive shops to identify new product opportunities
  • Obtain and communicate feedback from Field Leaders and stores to improve product selection
  • Create new product information collateral and communication needed for internal and external use

  • Ability to educate team on product knowledge
  • Ability to travel (less than 25% of the time)
  • Strong ethical integrity

Education & Experience:

  • BA/BS preferred or relevant work experience
  • 5+ years buying/merchandising
  • Extensive product and product production knowledge in the alcoholic beverage industry
