As a Guardian you will petition and/or appear in court to be appointed guardian and carry out the duties of a guardian/conservator for vulnerable adults in the Guardianship Options program. You will assess the appropriateness of services, activate or create a client support network and make referrals to other service providers when appropriate. You will supervise and monitor client personal care and health care,authorize medical services, therapy, treatment, support, vocational and other services, discuss and sign resuscitation or non-resuscitation orders and other legal documents and ensure an appropriate living environment and services for the client. As a substitute decision maker, you will manage client financial affairs (continuation of benefits, real estate, homestead, personal and household belongings), secure and oversee financial assets/accounts (checking, savings, CDs, stocks and other investments), authorize expenditures and ensure completion of court required documents. You will maintain client emergency, guardianship and financial plans, maintain client files and keep a detailed activity log of all services and activities performed on behalf of the client. In this position you are expected to be on call for client emergencies 24 hours a day via phone, pager or answering service. This on call duty may be shared with other staff members.


Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in human services or other relevant field plus two years of experience with similar client populations and needs, or 6 years of experience in a closely related field with a similar client population and in a similar decision making capacity. 
  • A valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, access to reliable transportation and a Motor Vehicle Check.
  • Successfully complete the requirements of a background check.
  • Extreme detail attention to communications, accurate and timely documentation and billings.
  • Strong assessment skills.
  • Clear and unbiased thinking and decision-making skills.
  • Sound judgment regarding the best interests of clients, major financial transactions and life and death situations.
  • Ability to recognize dangerous situations for client/self.
  • Must complete Center for Guardianship Certification National Certified Guardian (NCG) exam after the first year of employment.
