As a Truancy Intervention Specialist you will provide intensive truancy prevention and intervention service for students ranging in age from 5 to 16 who have been identified with chronic school absence. You will establish and maintain an on-going relationship with the student, their family, and school staff and assess the strengths and needs of the student and their family using a risk-assessment tool(s) and make referrals to collaborative organizations when appropriate. You will monitor daily school attendance, develop a case plan, document all contacts, compile data including behavior, attendance, and referral information and maintain individual case files for each student.

You will attend supervision/consultation meetings to monitor caseload and determine actions to be taken regarding students who are dealing with a serious situation or have multiple issues; coordinate with county and school services to prevent or address a student/family crisis. You will develop court reports, present cases in truancy court, make recommendations to judges and monitor compliance with court orders. In this role, you will also facilitate/attend school, community or county meetings in regard to individual students or the implementation of the truancy program and maintain program documentation, database, and reports.

This position is based out of a local middle school and has summers off. Flexible work schedule during the week with weekends, evenings, and holidays off.

Minimum Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in corrections, social work or a related field plus two years of experience working with at-risk youth.
  • A valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, valid insurance, access to reliable transportation and a Motor Vehicle Check.
  • Training in the areas of crisis intervention, family dynamics, and chemical dependency is desired.
  • Knowledge of the issues surrounding truancy is desired.
