The Employment Navigator (MFIP) is the first point of contact for participants referred to LSS’ Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP), which includes contacting clients who have been assigned to LSS, updating databases, assigning employment counselors and providing overview orientations to participants.  The Employment Navigator (MFIP) also maintains a client caseload to assist MFIP program participants who are faced with severe barriers to employment move into the workforce and gain self-sufficiency and to obtain & maintain employment.


Minimum Requirements

  • Associates degree preferred with 2 years related experience; significant professional experience may substitute for formal education.
  • Past experience in customer service, presenting information to groups, and administrative capacity is desired.
  • Intermediate computer skills, including internet, email, Microsoft Office, and ability to learn program specific software/database applications
  • Excellent skills in verbal and written communication
  • Detail orientation
  • Ability to multi-task and balance competing priorities
  • This position requires a high level of detail and mandates that employee has both the ability to recall significant amounts of information as well as document and remain organized.
  • This position requires the employee to maintain a friendly and accommodating disposition since they will be working, regularly, with people who may be stressed, frustrated, or otherwise experiencing difficulties.
  • Experience working with diverse populations in an employment counseling or rehabilitation setting is preferred
  • Must have access to reliable transportation
  • Be receptive to the nature of social work in the U.S. including the concepts of boundaries, confidentiality and empowerment
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Draw on problem-solving skills in order to resolve conflicts between clients, employer, employees, etc.
  • Think analytically and creatively when assessing a participant’s needs and making recommendations for service
  • Able to work with and relate effectively to people from a variety of socio-economic, racial, faith and cultural background
