R. J. Corman Railroad Switching Company is currently seeking Train Crew Members in Macon, GA.  

Train Crew members must be capable of operating all equipment in a safe and efficient manner in order to avoid injury or damage. The employee will perform on-ground duties in a switching environment as well as equipment and track maintenance and other assigned duties to assist in an efficient railroad operation. The employee is expected to progress in skill and responsibilities of train operations over time with the eventual goal of becoming the Train Crew Member responsible for locomotive engineering duties.

Duties include:

  • Coupling and uncoupling of railcars. 
  • Lining track switches.
  • Observance of Operating and Safety Procedures
  • Working with Facility/Plant personnel on coordinating railcar moves.
  • Opening and closing of railcar doors
  • Operating switch engine
  • Perform periodic maintenance of equipment
  • Book keeping/filing of track and periodic reports
  • Perform other Switchman duties as assigned
  • Perform Track Repair/Maintenance Work as assigned


Minimum Requirements



  • Excellent safety record
  • Available to work daily overtime if needed, weekends and holidays included
  • Ability to comprehend switch moves with railcar numbers
  • Must demonstrate vision and hearing abilities relevant to performing duties, safely
  • Must be punctual
  • Good attendance record
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions

Physical Requirements:  

  • Able to perform physical strenuous work 
  • Requires constant standing, walking, climbing stairs and ladders, and balancing in a safe manner 
  • Requires frequent stooping, kneeling, and crouching 
  • Able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 80 lbs 
  • Able to push and pull with up to 150 lbs of force
