This position is 3 days per week

JOB SUMMARY

The Nutrition Educator identifies nutritional risks for participants on the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program. Additionally, the incumbent determines client program eligibility, and assigns appropriate food packages based on that assessment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:     

  • Determines nutritional risks for program eligibility and assign appropriate food packages based on that assessment;
  • Facilitates discussion in group classes on nutrition topics and address questions and concerns participants share in the group setting;
  • Refers participants to other programs or resources available in our community i.e. food stamps, Family Promise;
  • Promotes breastfeeding and educates mothers and caregivers about different breastfeeding techniques;
  • Performs WIC certifications and nutrition risk assessments;
  • Facilitates group education such as the prenatal smoking cessation program;
  • Issues breast pumps and performs pump maintenance;      
  • Orders and maintains WIC educational materials;
  • Prepares and/or processes purchase orders;
  • Performs inventory/property management;
  • Attends quarterly nutrition staff meetings and completes all required trainings;
  • Completes Therapeutic Formula requests; and
  • Performs other assigned duties.

Minimum Requirements

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

  • Bachelor’s Degree;
  • One (1) year of experience;
  • Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience; and 
  • Valid driver’s license.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of human behavior and performance regarding individual differences in ability, personality, and interests, learning, and motivation;
  • Skilled in the use small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems;
  • Skilled in using computers for data entry;
  • Skilled in using computers for word processing and/or accounting purposes;
  • Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems;
  • Ability to use scientific rules and methods to solve problems;
  • Ability to organize, and communicate effectively;
  • Ability to maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with others; and
  • Ability to cooperate with fellow employees as a team member.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Work requires lifting and carrying (up to 20 pounds); hearing, mental acuity, speaking, talking, visual acuity, and walking.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:     

  • Most work is performed in a well-lighted, modern office setting with centrally controlled heating and air conditioning.
