FP&A Manager of Merchandising & Stores

Job Description



The FP&A Manager of Merchandising and Store Ops manages the FP&A Analyst and works directly with Merchandising and Store Operations Leadership to provide a broad spectrum of financial planning, collaborative problem solving and analytics to support company’s business and financial goals. The position reports directly to the Sr. Director of FP&A and Pricing and supports this role in leading budgeting and forecasting processes for sales, margin and store operations as well as continuous improvement of value-added analytics and insights to support strategic decision making. This position is responsible for proactively designing and delivering relevant and actionable analyses and recommendations in timely and accurate manner.



Key Roles and Responsibilities:


  • Manage and lead financial planning, annual budgeting, forecasting and reporting processes for total, category and store level sales, margin, and operating expenses including among others store level labor budgets, supplies, security and samples
  • Responsible for budget and forecast development, tracking and reporting of overall business KPIs (UPT, AUR, Traffic and others). Understand how KPIs and further variables such as historical performance, seasonality, promotions affect the current business trends
  • Manage processes to track and forecast sales, margin, and expense spending encompassing: preparation of weekly forecast for S&OP meeting including also forecast to actual variance analysis and concise and accurate explanations for weekly business review; monthly budget to actual variance analysis and preparation of slides for Period Reporting Package and Quarterly Business Review
  • Manage and improve labor management processes, systems, reporting and insights. Prepares analytics and presentations concerning a wide range of labor programs and policies and reporting of related KPI’s (average wage rates and productivity results)
  • Provide labor recommendations to store operations through development and maintenance of labor models and dashboards
  • Provide business justification, reports and analysis for new programs and initiatives including: tasting sampling programs; expense control initiatives; store management bonus plan, contests and incentives
  • Independently design and execute complex ad hoc analysis; gather necessary data; summarize insights; present clear findings and recommendations to senior and executive leadership.
  • Provide a high level of leadership, people management, coaching and development to the analyst direct report. Proactively foster a diverse, inclusive and collaborative culture within the finance department. 
  • Other ad hoc analysis and reporting as requested by Leadership Team members

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Accounting or Finance; Master’s Degree strongly preferred
  • 7+ years’ experience in finance preferably within retail, restaurant or other multi-unit business
  • Expert in MS Office (Excel, MS Word and PowerPoint Skills)
  • SQL and Access Skills preferred, but not required
