POSITION SUMMARY

The Pediatric Liaison Nurse is a skilled and experienced professional Registered Nurse responsible for ensuring compliance with Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics (EDAP) standards, EDAP agreement reference no. 312, pediatric liaison nurse, and policies and procedures established by the EMS agency. Under the oversight of the Sr. Director Emergency Services and in partnership with the EDAP Medical Director, the PDLN will oversee the EDAP QI program and act as a liaison between all associates and providers and administrative staff who are involved in the provision of solid evidence based pediatric care.  The Pediatric liaison Nurse has 8 hour accountability for organizing, planning, directing and coordinating high quality individualized patient/family centered care based on the Watson Model of Care for pediatric patients. This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Responsible for ensuring compliance with Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics EDAP standards, EDAP agreement reference no. 312, pediatric liaison nurse, and policies and procedures established by the EMS agency. 
2. Provides support and meets regularly with the LA County pediatric advisory committee addressing pediatric care issues related to pre-hospital, emergency and PICU care.
3. Acts as the point of contact for EMS agencies ensuring multidisciplinary team synergies and addressing any concerns arising in the provision of pediatric treatment and transport.
4. Oversees the efficacy and operation of the ED staff pediatric education programs, ensuring that a robust structure exists to deliver, evaluate and refine staff development. 
5. Responsible for creation and maintenance of all associate pediatric education records, ensuring their availability for regulatory process.
6. Responsible for the actively participating in the governance of pediatric AHA driven programs and the reinforcement of AHA resuscitation guidelines within MLKCH. 
7. Facilitate, engage and participate in coaching, training and PI based initiatives that will elevate the day to day and emergency pediatric care within the whole hospital.
8. Ensure that reports and correspondence are prepared and delivered in a timely manner.
9. Provides other administrative assistance to Sr. Director as needed.
10. Functions with a high level of autonomy and integrity while respecting the chain of command structure within MLKCH.
11. Demonstrates the use of nursing process as a problem solving model; utilizing their knowledge and experience to anticipate and plan to meet patient and family needs.
12. Upholds professional appearance and demonstrates such through adherence to dress code.  Wears hospital I.D. badge and promotes the standard of proper identification for peers and staff.
13. Develops, implements, and maintains departmental recordkeeping and filing systems.
14. Performs duties and projects specific to the functions and needs of the department.
15. Maintains compliance with HIPAA and successfully completes HIPAA training and certification.
16. Participates in the implementation of pediatric specific Quality and Performance Improvement plans and activities when requested and completes monitoring forms and reports findings to the Department of Quality and Licensing.
17. Assist in supporting compliance to GME policies and procedures and related departmental policies
18. Schedule meetings, prepare agendas, take minutes, prepare reports and prepare correspondence.
19. Other duties as assigned.

 

 


POSITION REQUIREMENTS

A. Education
• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.

B. Qualifications/Experience

• Current CA RN license
• Current BLS (AHA)
• Current ALS (AHA)
• Current PALS ( AHA), instructor preferred
• ENPC preferred
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience in pediatrics or in an ED providing care to pediatric patients within the previous 5 years.
• Demonstrated competence in leading adult and pediatric codes
• Completion of a 2 day pediatric emergency course within the last 4 years.
• Completion of a 7 hours pediatric continuing education approved by the Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) within the last 2 years.
• Outstanding communication and mentoring skills
• Strong independent time management skills
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
• Minimum of two (2) years of project management experience preferred, preferably in a healthcare and/or education setting.

C. Special Skills/Knowledge

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage sensitive information with absolute confidentiality.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Cerner.
• Ability to make decisions independently and escalate issues as needed to appropriate individual(s).
