Position Summary: This position performs important work that includes terrific writing skills and extreme attention to detail to advance AHFCs paid, earned, social and owned communications for the corporation’s social programs and internal operations. This is a project-based position and established using Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act funds – this position will end when the CARES funds expire.

OVERVIEW 

AHFC is an independent state agency governed by a seven-member board with employees in 13 communities. Its mission is to promote access to safe, quality and affordable housing for Alaskans. AHFC has been selected by the Governor and legislature to administer more than $200 million in housing assistance programs a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. See Position Summary.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:  Non-exempt, non-supervisory position.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge: Established communication models; use of analytics; business fundamentals; AP writing style; AHFC programs, operations and activities and statewide housing issues. 

Skills: Organization and extreme attention to detail. E
xcellent written communications. Ability to develop a solid knowledge and understanding of AHFC and its brand standards.

 

Abilities: Demonstrate high ethical standards; be nimble to respond to shifting priorities; identify audiences and develop appropriate content and vehicle for delivery; develop news judgement. Take initiative, manage multiple projects with minimal supervision, and work effectively in a team.

 

Examples of Duties EXPECTED monthly:

  • Maintain intranet and develop content to inform employees of corporate activities, including Eleven:15 trainings and interdepartmental meetings.
  • Draft news releases; coordinate media visits and prepare staff for interviews.
  • Contribute to industry-specific newsletter, Home Delivery.
  • Write speeches, develop talking points, respond to public inquiries.

 

Examples of Duties EXPECTED DAILY:

  • Update GRPA department on agency opportunities for communications, completed and upcoming activities.
  • Track and report AHFC mentions, ratings and reviews across social networks and engage with audiences by writing interesting content appropriate for external social media and intranet.
  • Anticipate story ideas and trends and collect necessary information from communities/departments for internal or external use.
  • Engage with staff and agency partners for execution of approved work plans related to federal assistance and enhanced employee relations.

 

Examples of OTHER Duties:

Support grand openings and other events where AHFC is involved.

 

Respond to public inquiries about AHFC’s programs and policies through formal Public Records Act/Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA)/social media posts, and otherwise.

 

Support crisis communications response.

 

Others as assigned.           

Minimum Requirements

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in communications, business or social services, and three years or more experience performing: 

 

Communication functions such as public relations, marketing, advertising, social media, or graphic design that are tied to business objectives.

 

Must be able to demonstrate ability to write for targeted audiences and variety of vehicles with attention to grammar, punctuation, spelling, vocabulary, and engagement for newsletters, news releases, web, social media, speeches and other.

 

Substitution: Additional professional experience may be substituted for the college education on a year for year basis.

 

This is a level 19 position with an annual salary of $63,430.44 (26 pay periods).  Excellent benefits, including medical, dental, vision, and leave package.
