JOB SUMMARY

The Youth Services Specialist provides high quality, professional face-to-face customer service that enables the public to access the full range of the services provided by the Youth Services Department.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Assists patrons with any and all questions and finding materials;
  • Aids the early learners literacy program;
  • Creates supplementary material for programs (brochures, etc.);
  • Creates lesson plans for programs;
  • Implements and teaches lesson plans;
  • Shelves and organizes books;
  • Answers phones and relays messages;
  • Compiles data related to programming;
  • Accepts, receives, and/or collects payments;
  • Assists patrons with the use of library computers, including troubleshooting;
  • Teaches patrons effective ways to use the internet, especially for research;
  • Tidies areas; and
  • Performs other assigned duties.

Minimum Requirements

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO WORK

  • Bachelor's Degree;
  • One (1) year of experience;
  • Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience; and
  • Valid drivers license.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of library organization, resources, and systems;
  • Knowledge of departmental practices and systems;
  • Skilled in the use small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems;
  • Skilled in using computers for data entry;
  • Skilled in using computers for word processing and/or accounting purposes;
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and an orientation towards customer service;
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment that requires adaptation to changing goals, priorities, and needs;
  • Ability to organize, and communicate effectively;
  • Ability to maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with others; and
  • Ability to cooperate with fellow employees as a team member.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work requires lifting and carrying (up to 10 pounds); crouching, grasping, fingering, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, standing, speaking, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Most work is performed in a well-lighted, modern office setting with centrally controlled heating and air conditioning.
