Description

 

The experienced Safety Coordinator will be responsible for applying a broad range of safety knowledge to situations within the bakery operations. The Safety Coordinator will provide a wide range of safety program administration, injury and near-miss analysis, injury claims administration support and routine safety and health advice for the workplace. The successful Safety Coordinator will play a key role in the success of the organization by supporting safety initiatives, offering guidance on safety/OSHA compliance, and safety best practices while facilitating a positive relationship between personnel and senior management.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Builds a safety-first culture based on Safety 24/7 and other concepts that link with operations build on best demonstrated practices.
  • Develops and conducts other communications and training programs which will increase proficiency in safe practices and promote safety consciousness as well as comply with state and federal laws.
  • Administers Worker's Compensation and light/modified duty programs in conjunction with Human Resources Manager and insurance carrier.
  • Coordinates investigation of injuries, Worker's Compensation claim reporting, light duty assignments and safety training/retraining.
  • Works with Transport Manager to investigate vehicular accidents and submits claims as needed.
  • Compiles and submits accident and injury reports required by regulatory agencies and company policy.
  • Ensures safety policies and procedures are followed by all bakery personnel in compliance with company, state and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration rules and regulations.
  • Develops, conducts and distributes monthly safety training, as required for all departments.  
  • Ensures safety documents are kept updated and are audit ready at all times.  
  • Develops and conducts communications and training programs which will increase proficiency in safe practices and promote safety consciousness in compliance with local, state and federal laws.
  • Oversees bakery’s safety committees and ensures member responsibilities are performed and minutes communicated and posted.
  • Act as resource for employees who have questions and/or concerns about safety policies, procedures, and compliance issues in the area of safety.
  • Dedicates time to detect existing or potential hazards and at-risk behaviors. Recommends corrective/preventive action as needed.
  • Coordinates ordering and inventory of the appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Conduct analyses of bakery accident and injury root causes and hazards for use by all bakery personnel and outside agencies.
  • Oversee annual OSHA postings, annual hearing testing, first aid and CPR training. 
  • Ensures that OSHA logs (300 and 300A) are updated, posted and stored as required.
  • Relevant vendor management and interface with insurance carrier, first aid, safety signage, uniform, work shoe program and additional vendors as required.
  • Work with other company facilities and personnel and third parties to introduce safety best practice to CCBC
  • Build and activate a 2 Year safety plan 

Minimum Requirements

 

Minimum Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health, Safety or related fields or 5 years of safety experience in same or higher-level position. 
  • A minimum of 3 years previous experience in or with safety-sensitive positions in the food industry including the development and delivery of Safety programs.
  • Baked goods manufacturing experience is a plus.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus

Critical Skills and Expertise

  • Reliable transportation with valid driver’s license and insurance.
  • Ability/willingness to work various hours to accommodate employees' schedules to investigate issues and provide training.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written to communicate effectively before groups and regulatory agencies.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations where only limited standardization may exist.
  • Ability to handle competing priorities and deadlines effectively and to respond effectively to last minute, high priority, time sensitive projects.
  • Proficiency in PC and Microsoft Office.
  • Speak effectively before groups and regulatory agencies.
  • Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization may exist.

Travel: 20%  

Required Licensure/Certification/Registration:

  • OSHA 10 Hour Certification preferred
  • Valid Drivers License and clean DMV record
