FREIGHT COORDINATOR

 

Summary:  The Freight Coordinator will provide logistical and direct support to all freight and operational supply movement for fishing vessels in the Bristol Bay area.  This is a full time position based in Seattle that will require travel to AK 3 months + per year as needed. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ties/unties incoming/departing vessels to moorings.
  • Hooks up shore power, phone lines and installs/adjusts/removes gangway as needed.
  • Deploys/retracts oil boom around vessels as needed.
  • Monitors tidal fluctuation and makes or reports the need to make necessary line adjustments accordingly.
  • Reads work order or email or follows oral instructions from Dock Manager .
  • Opens containers and inspects and sorts cargo, if applicable, before loading and unloading.
  • Loads and unloads materials or garbage onto or from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves by hand and keeps dock free of debris (cardboard, pallets and garbage).
  • Loads and unloads ship cargo, using winches and other hoisting devices. Secures lifting attachments to materials and conveys load to destination or signals crane or hoisting operators to move load to destination.
  • Packs materials onto flatbeds or into containers  and installs strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shifting or damage in transit.
  • Operates safely equipment within its limitations.
  • Keeps piers free of debris.
  • Inspects, notes and reports damage to pier to manager for repair.
  • Maintains skiff and float dock.
  • Inspects camel logs along pier, in water, and reports damage to manager. 
  • Inspects/cleans oil boom as needed.
  • Places, removes and dumps dumpsters and operates trash compactor.
  • Handles scrap and recycle materials per Dock Manager’s instructions.
  • Maintains good housekeeping in all work areas.
  • Moves product and other materials to and from storage and production areas, loading docks, delivery vehicles, ships, and containers, by hand or using trucks, tractors, and other equipment.
  • Counts, weighs, and records number of units of materials moved or handled on daily production sheet.
  • Attaches identifying tags or labels to materials or marks information on cases, equipment, pallets, or other containers.
  • Stacks or assembles materials into bundles or on pallets and bands bundles/pallets together.
  • Assembles product containers and crates, using hand tools and precut lumber.
  • Operates forklifts and grove crane to assist moving freight.
  • Manifests incoming and outgoing freight.

Additional Responsibilities: 

  • Acquires knowledge of Trident’s Environmental and Safety Policies by completing required training programs and performing designated work activities in accordance with training and procedures/work instructions 
  • Notifies designated personnel of any environmental or safety incidents or risks not previously documented, in accordance with Environmental Awareness and/or safety trainings

 

Experience:  A minimum of 2 months experience loading/unloading freight, working on a dock, or related experience.  Forklift and crane experience are preferred, but not required. 

Education:  High School Diploma or equivalent.  Directly related experience may be substituted for the education requirement.

Qualifications: Ability to read and write basic English.  Ability to read and understand work orders, bills of lading, and/or other related documents.  Basic math skills including addition , subtraction, multiplication and division required.
