The Advanced Practice Provider/Psych (APP) functioning within the psychiatric acute care hospital setting works in collaboration with, and is an integral member of, a multidisciplinary health care team. The APP functions primarily in the inpatient psychiatric setting managing the care of acute and chronically ill patients. The APP is generally on a service aligned team and manages the day to day patient care from step down to discharge. In some instances, the APP may have responsibilities for this same patient population as they return for follow up in the outpatient setting. APP may have functions at ESH and/or CKRC.

The APP may also play a role in the psych admission process on the ESH campus. The APP has a strong foundation in evidenced based practice and education and has a responsibility for ensuring an environment of safe quality care. The APP demonstrates an advanced level of medical and nursing knowledge, clinical and technical competency, sound clinical judgment, professionalism as it relates to interpersonal and general communication skills, timely and compliant documentation, and takes responsibility for ongoing professional development and competency validation.

Given the COVID-19 pandemic and the need to protect patient, employee and visitor safety, UK HealthCare is requiring all employees to comply with its COVID-19 vaccination policy prior to starting employment. Therefore, as of September 15, 2021, UK HealthCare requires all employees, including new hires prior to their first day of employment, to submit appropriate documentation showing, i) completion of the first vaccination against COVID-19, or ii) completion of the full vaccination series against COVID-19 (i.e., two weeks past completing their complete COVID-19 vaccination series), or iii) approved exemption (medical contraindications or a sincerely held religious belief) through the formal exemption process from the COVID-19 vaccination requirement. For those employees who have completed the first vaccination against COVID-19 prior to their first day of employment, the second vaccination (if applicable) must be completed following the vaccine recommended schedule and a period of two weeks to be considered fully vaccinated.     

Master's Degree of Science in Physician Assistant Studies.

For Nurse Practitioner applicants, active Kentucky Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license.

For Nurse Practitioner applicants, a Psychology Mental Health certification is required.

For Physician Assistant applicants, a current National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) certification and active Kentucky Physician Assistant (PA) license.

Employment is contingent upon verification of credentials as required by state law and University policies.
