The Lead Child Life Specialist will work closely with the department supervisor. They will provide supervision and give feedback to the unit based child life assistant and the child life specialists. The child life lead will help support the child life specialists throughout the hospital and will be cross-trained to all departments that work with child life.

  1. They will be responsible for checking in with each child life specialist on each unit daily. They would be responsible with assisting with anything on the unit that is needed and also helping with any escalation that is needed.
  2. The child life lead will develop relationships with the interdisciplinary teams on each unit.
    • Collaborate with different leads on each unit and help spread awareness of the child life specialist role in the organization
  3. Develop trainings and education to interdisciplinary team to educate on the importance of child life in the hospital setting
    • On-going trainings with staff when they are on-boarded to Franciscan
  4. The child life lead will assist with supervision and feedback to the child life specialist.
    • Spend a portion of a day weekly with each child life specialist
    • Give feedback to supervisor and child life specialists on ways that they can professionally develop in their role
  5. Assist with the on-boarding of new staff members into the child life department
    • Participate in interview process for new staff members
    • Assist with the lead role in orienting a new staff member
  6. Assists child life specialist with evaluations and gives feedback on ways they can change their evaluations or provide support.
  7. Helps develop and maintain the internship program at Franciscan Children’s
    • Will assist with onboarding of interns and support and supervision throughout their internship
    • Will have regular check ins with intern supervisor and help provide support
  8. Responsible for developing calendar of events for the playroom and different groups we have on the units.
  9. Assists with family educational needs on the unit and is present for team meetings.
  10. Child life lead will be crossed trained to work as a child life specialist on the medical units, behavioral health unit and the dental department.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field required
  • Master's degree preferred
  • 2 years or more of experience in Child Life required
  • Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) license through ACLP required
