This position is part time, temporary, non-exempt, and not covered as defined by the Board of Commissioners of the County of Allen Employee Handbook.

Hours are 10:00 am- 2:00 pm Monday through Friday, and as needed

Under the direction of the Office and Finance Manager, the Receptionist is responsible for providing exceptional customer service to permit applicants and answering the phone inquiries for services. 


  • Responsible for answering phones and directing calls to department staff members.
  • Greets customers upon entry to the department.
  • Assists with general department clerical work.
  • Assists with projects as assigned.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.


  • High School Diploma or GED and one year customer service experience
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to answer a wide range of calls and questions in a professional and positive manner
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work with little or no supervision
  • Strong computer skills with the ability to use Microsoft Office and other job-related software
  • Ability to use multi-line telephone, copier, scanner, fax, and other job-related equipment



The Receptionist works in an office setting with frequent sitting and the ability to move about freely. Some lifting of up to twenty pounds, bending, pushing/pulling, reaching over head, kneeling, and climbing ladders is required. The Receptionist performs very frequent typing, attention to detail, monitoring of equipment, proofreading and some detailed inspection. Some exposure to noise exists.
