This position is full time, non-exempt, classified and covered under the Allen County Superior Court Employee Handbook. This is an employee-at-will position.

Hours vary on 4/2 rotation; 40 hours/week

Under the direction of the Shift Leader, the Female Detention Services Officer performs day-to-day direct supervision of high risk juvenile detainees in a maximum security detention facility.


  • Supervises detained juveniles daily activities, ensuring their welfare and security in accordance with policies and procedures.  Provides corrective instructions and/or assistance as needed.
  • Responsible for communicating effectively with other facility staff including immediate supervisors accurately via typed documents and work log entries.
  • Completes incident/discipline reports concerning juvenile detainees and provides corrective action as appropriate.
  • Maintains physical confidential juvenile files with organization and precision, ensuring proper documentation is filed.
  • Performs searches of detained juveniles, cells and common areas to ensure a clean, safe and secure environment.
  • Monitors and issues juvenile detainees’ meals, clothing, bedding, hygiene and personal items.
  • Responds to emergencies within the maximum security detention facility including, but not limited to, conflicts between residents where physical restraint may be required, escape attempts and medical issues where CPR may be necessary.
  • Processes new juvenile detainees upon entrance into the maximum security facility.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned, including overtime as required.


  • High School Diploma or GED with one year experience working in a maximum detention facility preferred
  • Must be female
  • Supervisory skills needed to supervise juvenile detainees
  • Strong written and verbal skills including technical writing skills needed for report writing
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office and other job related computer software programs
  • Ability to use handcuffs, shackles, restraint chair and shield, AED devise and hand held radio
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Must be able to physically perform the essential functions of the job
  • Must maintain confidentiality of all departmental records and information
  • Valid Driver’s License to operate a County owned vehicle


The Female Detention Services Officer works in a juvenile maximum security detention facility with potentially violent detained juveniles with very frequent standing with the ability to walk around freely frequently lifting over sixty pounds, frequently bending, pushing and/or pulling loads, reaching over head and kneeling with some exposure to chemicals, noxious odors/fumes and noise.
