Job Summary: The Corporate Accounting Manager assists the Assistant Controller with both managing and directly performing key functions in the Financial Reporting group such as management of the close process, balance sheet reconciliations, producing consolidated results, preparing financial statements, technical accounting research, developing and implementing accounting policy, coordinating the year-end audit, improving internal controls, monitoring general ledger integrity.

Technical Accounting

  • Ensure financial statements comply with US GAAP and/or statutory requirements
  • Draft (through position memos) technical accounting policies when required for new and changing situations
  • Conduct adoption of new accounting guidelines including leases and revenue recognition
  • Conduct GAAP training and provide policy documentation to the company as necessary (including capitalization policies for CIP and software implementations)
  • Ensure correct GAAP treatment of M&A and divestiture activity
  • Assist with periodic reviews of balance sheet reserves and asset valuations including fixed assets, investments and intangibles
  • Complete a GAAP reporting checklist at least once/year

Close

  • Help manage the close continuous improvement process by establishing and communicating deadlines, proactively identifying and resolving know issues, leading post mortem reviews to identify and resolve bottlenecks and prioritize areas for improvement

Balance Sheet Reconciliations

  • Support Blackline and the balance sheet reconciliation process including monthly performance report on reconcilers
  • Review critical reconciliations to ensure adequate explanations and supporting documents are included
  • Subject matter expert on Blackline, stay up to date on software features, train reconcilers and introduce enhancements as appropriate
  • Review critical accounts including CIP, trade promotion, freight and other accruals.
  • Support process improvement initiatives related to integrity of subledgers and supplemental systems such as inventory and Catch Manager

Consolidation

  • Prepare consolidated statements including intercompany eliminations and adjustments as required
  • Improve the consolidation process, reduce risk via automated uploads, and enhance reporting by including prior periods and budget comparatives 
  • Help source, select and implement an automated solution to replace the existing consolidated spreadsheets
  • Help with communication/liaison role with subsidiaries and business units.

Financial Statements

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual consolidated financial statements
  • Develop new financial statement notes and update existing notes for guidance changes.  Gather/coordinate information required to populate the notes (ex. leases, debt, related parties)
  • Prepare entity level statutory statements and interim financial statements for banking purposes, including EBITDA calculations and tax filings.
  • Assist in the preparation of the statement of cash flow on a year to date, quarter to date and monthly basis

Audit

  • Assist with the gathering and review of PBC requirements to facilitate an efficient audit
  • Help maintain an internal “scoresheet” of unadjusted audit differences and know deviations from GAAP. Record adjustments as necessary.

General Ledger Integrity

  • Support./enhance the approval process for all G/L changes, new accounts, business units, entities with appropriate segregation of duties
  • Assist as the arbitrator and “help desk” for coding issues

Administration and Supervision

  • Assist with supervision of the financial reporting team and the review of their work.

Minimum Requirements

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Experience:

  • Three or more years in experience in public accounting.
  • Experience in a food manufacturing setting in a large accounting environment a plus. 
  • Strong Excel skills. 
  • Experience with large ERP environment (JD Edwards preferred)
  • Experience with internal controls
  • Experience working with complex consolidations.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting (Master's degree a plus). 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:  CPA Required.

Special Training/Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of email, spreadsheet software, word processing software and presentation software.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence, and speak effectively before groups of employees and senior management of the organization. 

Work Environment:
This job takes place in a typical office environment.  The noise level is usually moderate.
