Description
Job Summary: Assists the Purchasing Manager in the maintenance of supplies and inventory by performing the following duties:
Essential Functions:
- Verifies nomenclature and specifications of purchase requests.
- Searches inventory records and warehouse to determine if materials on hand are sufficient quantity.
- Consults catalogs and interviews suppliers to obtain prices and specifications.
- Types or writes invitation of bid forms and mails forms to supplier firms or for public posting.
- Writes or types purchase orders and sends copies to supplier and department originating request.
- Compiles records of items purchased or transferred between departments, prices, deliveries, and inventories.
- Computes total cost of items purchased.
- Works closely with warehousing and receiving to ensure accurate invoicing.
- Compares prices, specifications, and delivery dates and awards contracts to bidders or places orders with suppliers or mail order firms.
- Creates, updates, and maintains inventory spreadsheets in Excel format.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Assists switchboard in implementing plant security procedures for visitor admittance.
- Performs other similar or related duties as requested or assigned.
Minimum Requirements
Education:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Experience: Intermediate to advanced Excel experience is required. Knowledge of JDE and or SAP is a plus.
Special Training/Skills:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software; Order processing systems; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Work Environment: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
Mental Activities: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to read, speak, write and understand English, and to use customer service skills. The employee is frequently required to use interpersonal and teamwork skills. The employee is occasionally required to use creativity, independent judgment, discretion, problem analysis, supervision and decision making skills.
