Description
Summary: The Sr. Chief Engineer will oversee all day to day facility engineering, repair and maintenance functions of AK shore facilities. Under general direction from the Director of Facility Engineering they will ensure that the plants are operating efficiently and effectively according to established procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Creates and oversees procedures to ensure optimal functionality and safety of all facilities, including including the physical buildings, mechanical equipment, electrical/heating/cooling/life/safety systems, industrial refrigeration and grounds.
- Ensures that facilities and activities are in compliance with all state and federal laws and regulations.
- Assists project managers with the management of capital projects as requested (e.g., shoreplant-based construction, installation and repair projects) including the scheduling, budgeting and compliance.
- Assesses capital projects requests and directs preparation of capital expenditure requests. Assists in scheduling and management of capital projects to ensure coordination with other divisions and departments within Trident Seafoods
- Consults with management, finance and production staff to determine engineering feasibility and cost effectiveness of present or future projects.
- Oversees and establishes the performance and operation standards for all shoreside utilities. Resolves problems using innovative solutions that involve appropriate techniques, technologies, or concepts.
- Directs and oversees compliance with required documentation for energy management, conservation, preventative maintenance and process safety management programs.
- Allocates and manages staffing levels to meet short and long term project needs.
- Creates, delivers and/or oversees training that meets or exceeds regulatory training and/or certification requirements and qualifications.
- Assesses assets and develops condition reports and estimated expenses for new plants. Assessments include utilities, processing capabilities, equipment and docks.
- Provides direction and example for interpretation and application of company policies and procedures to the engineering activities.
- Ensures strict adherence to all safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe workplace.
- Participates in planning for future skilled trades staffing by assisting with training and apprenticeship programs.
- Oversees staffing at all facilities and transfers employees to plants as needed to ensure proper coverage and rotations.
- Travels to AK plants as needed to assist and provide additional coverage.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Acquires knowledge of Trident’s Environmental and Safety Policies by completing required training programs and performing designated work activities in accordance with training and procedures/work instructions
- Notifies designated personnel of any environmental or safety incidents or risks not previously documented, in accordance with Environmental Awareness and/or safety trainings
Minimum Requirements
Experience: Extensive marine, seafood or related industry experience preferred. Comprehensive knowledge of industrial refrigeration theory required. Marine propulsion or power generation experience preferred.
Education: Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Mechanical Engineering preferred; Electrical or Marine Engineering, a minimum of 8 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Qualifications: CIRO or CARO certification, active status not required. EPA 608 universal certification. CRES certification preferred. Continuing education is supported through Trident Seafoods for professional development and training.
