Description
The Global Safety Center of Excellence - Safety Manager will report to and aid the Vice President Safety in the design, implementation, communication and coordination of all enterprise safety, security and occupational health safety processes and programs.
This position will develop and provide technical and administrative direction on safety and health decisions, which bear critical importance to overall enterprise objectives, operations, and key deliverables and will assist in the oversight and development of new safety leaders in the field.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supports global safety and health programs and processes by providing advice and guidance to Company Senior Management
- Continually maintain an appropriate level of awareness, knowledge and preparedness across the
- enterprise to create a culture that prioritizes effective safety and health priorities
- Reviews internal policies, standards and practices to ensure they are current and appropriate
- Conducts hazard and risk assessments and change existing, or develop new recommendations which serve to drive regulatory compliance and safety performance excellence
- Provides regular written reports, as well as other safety and health related results and provide updates to the Vice President Safety
- Assists in the investigation of serious incidents and ensure proper records are completed and submitted. Assist in implementation of corrective actions as it relates to the incident and ensure “lessons learned” are communicated throughout the Company and are incorporated into the program, if necessary
- Devise, supervise, and coordinate training programs or media which will increase proficiency in safe practices and promote safety and health consciousness
- Actively participate in the scheduling of safety meetings across Company locations to review safety and health performance
- Address specific injury reporting and record keeping requirements of OSHA, DOT, USDA, EPA etc., as well as other pertinent domestic and international safety/regulatory compliance matters and ensure sites are in compliance
- Serve as subject matter expert and render guidance to facilities reference OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP)
- Conduct site visits/audits
- Provide boots on the ground safety program oversight to plant facilities temporally backfilling open positions
- Participate/attend industry related conferences when requested to do so
Additional Responsibilities:
- Other duties as directed
- This position does not have direct reports but is responsible for carrying out responsibilities which may include training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; and addressing complaints and resolving issues
- Acquires knowledge of Trident’s Environmental and Safety Policies by completing required training programs and performing designated work activities in accordance with training and procedures/work instructions
- Notifies designated personnel of any environmental or safety incidents or risks not previously documented, in accordance with Environmental Awareness and/or safety trainings
Minimum Requirements
Experience / Education:
- Bachelor’s degree (4 year) or higher in Safety, Engineering, or related technical field is recommended, but not required.
- Five (5) years of safety management experience managing project safety.
- Advanced knowledge of fishery and/or foods manufacturing industry practices, regulatory agency requirements and industry standards.
Qualifications:
- OSHA 10 & 30 trained
- OSHA 500 and CSP a plus
- Travel is required in this position (up to 50%)
- Exceptional computer skills required. Must have strong proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Must have excellent written and oral communications ability.
- Required to speak effectively before groups of senior management, subcontractors, and/or employees of the organization.
- Use of basic reasoning, thinking “on your feet”, and ability to resolve issues quickly with little or no direction from a superior.
- Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule format.
- Solid negotiating skills
- Ability to make good judgments and render good decisions
