The Environmental Technician reports to the Environmental Coordinator and evaluates, participates, observes, and helps to control the legal and proper flow of regulated and nonregulated hazardous waste, waste oil, and potential environmental pollutants by performing the following duties:


Key Responsibilities: 


• Helps conduct required environmental observations, tests, and analysis.

• Participates in cleanup and consolidation of materials as needed.

• Assists in evaluating test results and makes recommendations for maintaining compliance with regulatory agencies.

• Properly labels and packages or palletizes hazardous or nonhazardous, regulated, and non-regulated materials for storage, shipment, or disposal.

• Receives, signs for, and possibly transports hazardous and non-hazardous materials in accordance with applicable regulations.

• Inspects hazardous waste/materials storage areas daily.

• Collects, identifies, and categorizes hazardous and nonhazardous materials for disposal or recycle.

• Safely operates equipment within its limitations.

• Identifies and reviews applicable regulations and applies them as necessary.

• Inspects property daily for potential housekeeping materials-storage issues or storm water pollutants and rectifies as needed.

• Performs as directed/required all storm water testing at required testing intervals and submits reports accordingly.

• Assists in emergencies and investigations involving ocean water pollution and stormwater incidents. 



Additional Responsibilities:


• Acquires knowledge of Trident’s Environmental and Safety Policies by completing required training programs and performing designated work activities in accordance with training and procedures/work instructions.

• Notifies designated personnel of any environmental or safety incidents or risks not previously documented, in accordance with Environmental Awareness and/or safety trainings.

• Performs other similar or related duties as requested or assigned. 

Minimum Requirements



Education / Experience: 

• High School diploma or GED required. 



• Prior exposure to operation environmental efforts preferred. 


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

• HAZWOPER 24 Hour, Spill Response, Asbestos Awareness, Storm Water and other required/mandatory training within 45-60 days of employment.

• Must be able to pass forklift certification or ability to become certified within 30 days of hiring; a valid driver’s license is preferred.


Preferred Training and Skills:

• Proficiency with MS Office products.

• Ability to read, interpret and write reports and correspondence in English.

• Able to take on special tasks or projects with limited direction and oversight required.

• Strong multitasking and organization skills required.

• Able to take ownership for assigned tasks, as defined by supervisor.


Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. 


Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. 


Mental Activities:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to understand English, and utilize teamwork skills. The employee is frequently required to speak English, and use decision making skills. The employee is occasionally required to use interpersonal, customer service, mentoring, problem analysis, training and supervision skills. The employee will be occasionally required to read and write English, perform basic math, use exercise independent judgment, and use discretion.
