WAREHOUSE - LEAD

Supervises and coordinates activities of workers concerned with ordering, receiving, storing, inventorying, issuing, and shipping materials, supplies, tools, equipment, and parts, in stockroom, warehouse by performing the following duties:

Essential Functions

  1. Plans layout of stockroom, warehouse, and other storage areas, considering turnover, size, weight, and related factors of items stored.
  2. Advises employees on care and preservation of items received, stored, and shipped; methods and use of equipment in handling, storing, maintaining, and shipping stock; and related problems.
  3. Studies records and recommends remedial actions for reported non-usable, slow moving, and excess stock.
  4. Reviews records for accuracy of information and compliance with established procedures, and to determine adequacy of stock levels.
  5. Schedules work for special and periodic inventories.
  6. Traces history of items to determine reasons for discrepancies between inventory and stock control records and recommends remedial actions to resolve discrepancies.
  7. Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules, and expedites workflow.
  8. Issues written and oral instructions.
  9. Assigns duties and examines work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures.
  10. Studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency of subordinates.
  11. Maintains harmony among workers and resolves grievances.
  12. Adjusts errors and complaints.

  1. Performs other similar or related duties as requested or assigned.

Education:

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Must be forklift certified, or able to become forklift certified.  May require valid Driver’s License.

Experience:

Experience in similar food industry warehouse positions preferred.

Special Training/Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of email, spreadsheet software, word processing software and presentation software.Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Work Environment:    While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Physical Demands:    While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision and depth perception.

Mental Activities:       While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to Read, speak, write and understand English and use customer service skills.  The employee is frequently required to utilize interpersonal, teamwork, decision making skills, creativity, independent judgment, discretion, problem analysis, supervision and advanced programming skills.
