Job Description



Oversees all aspects of plant safety.  Schedule and track testing, drills, and crew training pertaining to safety in all areas of the plant, as well as maintain safety readiness at all times, at or above industry or plant historical standards.

Essential Functions

  1. Outline and direct the daily safety reps.
  2. Plan, define and arrange employee training and appropriate employee certifications.
  3. Develop and maintain tracking procedures for testing plant safety systems.
  4. Attend Safety Committee meetings.  Present current and applicable safety issues at each session.
  5. Maintain and prepare the plant for biannual safety inspections in order to retain VPP or state equivalent Safety Program status.
  6. Track accident/incident reports and reporting system to ensure proper system procedures and follow ups steps are taken.
  7. Maintain injury date and complete required monthly and annual reports.
  8. Following accidents, facilitate Return to Work program between managers, supervisors and employees.
  9. Attend daily Manager’s meeting.
  10. Spotlight all activities that will enable a work location to achieve and maintain VPP or state equivalent status.

Additional Responsibilities:   

  1. May supervise or direct production staff on safety/compliance issues.
  2. Performs other or similar or related duties as requested or assigned. 
  3. Acquire knowledge of Trident’s Environmental and Safety Policies by completing required training programs and performing designated work activities in accordance with training and procedures/work instructions.
  4. Notify designated personnel of any environmental and safety incidents, or risks not previously documented, in accordance with Environmental Awareness and or Safety training.



High school diploma/GED or equivalent.  Up to 3-5 years related experience in a safety field preferred.


Associates degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school preferred; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Must be an OSHA Certified Safety Coordinator or have 3-5 years of related experience in Industrial Safety or other related field.

Special Training/Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of email, spreadsheet software, word processing software and presentation software.  Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.  Must be available to work varied days and times to accommodate and observe all plant schedules.  Must be able to train and motivate employees, supervisors, and managers to the highest safety standards. Must be self-directed, well organized and comfortable with multi-tasking.  Good written and verbal communications skills.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.  The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme cold.  The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms.  The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl.  The employee must occasionally talk or hear.

Mental Activities:

The incumbent should have the ability to use direction and independent judgment occasionally and should be able to demonstrate problem solving and analytical skills.
