WASTEWATER TREATMENT OPERATOR - L48

Job Summary:

Operates wastewater (process) equipment by performing the following duties.

Essential Functions

  1. Monitors control panels and adjusts valves and gates manually or by remote control to regulate flow of process water.
  2. Reads PH levels and make appropriate pump adjustments as needed.
  3. Observes variations in operating conditions and interprets meter and gauge readings and tests results to determine load requirements.
  4. Starts and stops pumps to control flow of wastewater.
  5. Maintains log of operations and records meter and gauge readings.
  6. Collects water samples and conducts tests as well as sending samples out for testing.
  7. Oversees and completes water-desludging.

Additional Responsibilities

  1. Cross trains in Recycling.
  2. Sanitizes equipment.
  3. Performs other similar or related duties as requested or assigned.

Education:

Related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of chemicals is also preferred.

Experience:

  • One (1) to two (2) years experience working with wastewater controls, BDU’s, storm drain maintenance and wastewater recycling preferred but will train.
  • Forklift experience preferred but will train.

 

Special Training/Skills:

  • Ability to calculate figures and concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and write simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees and/or superiors.

Work Environment:    While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Physical Demands:    While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands and arms to reach. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.

Mental Activities:      While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to read, speak, write, and understand English; and to use customer service skills. The employee is frequently required to use interpersonal and teamwork skills. The employee is occasionally required to use independent judgment, discretion, problem analysis, and decision making skills.
