Summary:   

The Director of FSQA will develop strategic plans to drive execution of current and future Quality & Food Safety initiatives through enhancements to current systems or design and implementation of new systems across Global Value-Added operations, External Manufacturing (XMG) operations and, FSQA lab. This position will lead cross-functional teams to develop and execute system enhancements to increase quality and food safety. This role will develop and execute systems for the field to ensure compliance with the Quality & Food Safety Systems requirements and tools.  

Key Responsibilities

  •  Develops and implements strategic actions and initiatives for Trident’s product processes within Trident’s Alaska operations that ensure compliance to the current and future regulatory landscape and customer commitments; provides insights for future enhancements.  
  • Evaluates food safety incidences to identify potential trends; leverages findings to proactively improve and strengthen current processes. 
  • Raises the profile of food safety and quality across the system and ensures food safety is embedded in the organization's culture. 
  • Plans, promotes, organizes, and provides multi-facility quality, food safety and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) training activities.  
  • Maintain regulatory & third party (GFSI, SQF, BAP) compliance oversight in the production of safe, quality, legal, wholesome, and authentic food production. 
  • Partners with the Sr. Sanitation Manager on new and existing projects, and review plant sanitation performance to drive improvements.  
  • Provides guidance and support to direct site FSQA Managers and corresponding Support Center Senior FSQA Managers assigned to support External Manufacturing operations. 
  • Oversees and executes FSQA audits at new and existing finished products suppliers. 
  • Manages the development of team members. Removes roadblocks, pushes communications, encourages, and assesses performance. Embraces problem-solving as a learning experience. 
  • Serves as an SME for analytical excellence across Trident’s Global VA, XMG and FSQA lab which necessitates a strong pulse on industry technologies and vendor relationships. 

 Additional Responsibilities:  

  • Acquires knowledge of Trident’s Environmental and Safety Policies by completing required training programs and performing designated work activities in accordance with training and procedures/work instructions. 

  • Notifies designated personnel of any environmental or safety incidents or risks not previously documented, in accordance with Environmental Awareness and/or safety training. 

This is a salaried exempt position with an annualized salary range of $115k to $145k.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience: 

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in FDA regulated food safety.

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, Food Sciences, Microbiology, Science, Engineering, or related fields; or the equivalent combination of education and years of experience.  

  • Proven leadership of complex product portfolio and supply chain 

  • Experience leading cross-functional teams to identify and develop strategies to improve capacity and throughput in a high-speed manufacturing environment. 

  • Knowledge of food plant regulatory and GFSI requirements including cGMPs, sanitation, food safety, allergen controls and ability to implement such systems. 

  • HACCP, Food Defense, Auditing, or related certifications 

  • Manage external vendors, contractors, consulting partners across multiple sites to execute quality and food safety initiatives. 

  • Ability to work on weekends and travel to remote locations, up to 25% 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Master’s degree in relevant physical science (Chemistry, Food Science, Microbiology)  

  • Technical credibility; having a wide depth and breadth of knowledge for various products and processes.  

  • Strong change management skills with a wide range of organizational levels, particularly with plant  

  • Influence up/down and across multiple teams and organizations to develop overall strategies and align on execution plans. 

  • Strong Analytical Capability 

  • Build and maintain dynamic internal and external networks to drive results. 

  • Key contributor to entire technical stage gate process with clear responsibility and ownership of the execution and verification phase 

 Work Environment: 

  • Varied - from loud, wet factory environments, requiring the use of PPE, to offices and conference rooms. 

 Physical Demands: 

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to handle/feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.  

  • You are occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop or kneel. 

  • You may occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. 

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus 

  • The position requires that you will walk the interior and exterior of facilities and have the ability to safely climb ladders, climb stairs, walk on uneven ground and work in areas of cold temperature.
