Summary: The Plant Controller will be a key player supporting the plant management teams. The Controller will provide key analysis and insights to guide decision making and will provide strong leadership and partnership to local plant teams to ensure the financial accounting and reporting objectives are met. The Controller will also provide financial insight and support management teams to meet their goals and objectives and ensure all plant accounting/reporting is done in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Provides financial decision support to the plant management team to ensure sound financial and operational decisions, including operational performance reporting and other relevant financial data.
  • Provides financial leadership for Lean Manufacturing initiatives at the plant level.
  • Instills strong cost control and planning discipline to assist plant management in controlling manufacturing costs.
  • Leads the monthly, quarterly, and annual business planning processes for the plant, including preparation of the financial manufacturing business plan and product standard cost inputs.
  • Assists plant management team with capital planning, including calculating and evaluating financial payback, for all capital expenditure proposals.
  • Works with divisional business units on various initiatives including:
    • Providing cost estimates for innovation and cost reduction projects.
    • Identifying cost/performance improvement opportunities.
  • Ensures the accuracy of monthly closing of books, including preparation of month-end journal entries and maintaining the general ledger.
  • Establishes and monitors accounting controls, including maintenance and review of all Bills of Material.
  • Accumulates and records defined period plant costs. Monitors cost and inventory variances and reports to management for the plant.
  • Responsible for overseeing materials cost and usage management, labor cost and utilization, asset utilization, overhead expenditure control and zero loss analytics

Required Qualifications (education, years of experience, KSAs)

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in cost and inventory accounting
  • A bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field, or the equivalent combination of education and years of experience.
  • Experience establishing and monitoring accounting controls, including maintenance and review of all Bills of Material.
  • Experience preparing month-end journal entries and maintaining the general ledger.

Preferred education and experience

  • Food industry experience
  • SAP experience
  • CPA or CMA
  • Performs analysis of all plant costs and variances; prepares plant cost statements.
  • Proven interpersonal skills and ability to reach across departments and geographies
  • Experience managing multiple projects and managing direct reports, indirect reports, and consultants across multiple functions and geographies in a complex matrix organization

Work environment (includes travel/on-call):

  • Varied - from loud, wet factory environments, requiring the use of PPE, to offices and conference rooms.

Physical demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to handle/feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
