Job Summary

The Assistant Store Manager Intern (ASMI) is accountable to the Store Manager.  The ASMI responsibilities are focused but not limited to training, learning, and applying knowledge to the three focus departments of: Produce, Deli, and Customer Service. The ASMI will ensure safety protocols, engage with customers and associates, learn sales and margins, understand labor component, maintain standards and be exposed to all drivers of the business.  This role requires availability to work approximately 20 hours per week.


Job Function:
The ASMI will assist in leading the store team and ensure department execution of goals as it pertains to safety, sales and profitability, experience, and department efficiency.

The ASMI will be training, learning and applying knowledge in the essential responsibilities of the Assistant Store Manager position which includes, but is not limited to, the following:

A. FINANCIAL

1. Drive sales and assist team to achieve targeted daily, weekly, quarterly and annual store financial goals, including shrink, profit, labor costs.

2. Understand labor costs and overhead costs to ensure that operating expenses are kept in line with store sales and operating results.

B. SAFETY

1. Maintain good store conditions.

2. Meet at a minimum store Safety Audit Score requirements.

3. Ensure all associates follow Food Safety compliance in the store and achieve at minimum -satisfactory Food Safety Audit scores.

4. Ensure a clean, safe store free from hazards, and responds to emergencies in a timely fashion.

5. Cultivate a safety culture within the store and all for associates.

C. OPERATIONS/MERCHANDISING

1. Learn and understand all store systems as it pertains to merch/ops

2. Be proficient in utilization of store inventory management systems.  Maintain proper inventory levels and controls through proper ordering practices, controlling store shrink and availability of product for sale to customers.

3. Understand and implement company standards in all departments.

4. Understand, respond and solve guest/ customer requests/ complaints as seen through SMG 1-800-SHOPRITE incidents and comment cards, etc.

5. Completes Leadership Development special projects as assigned by Learning and Development.

6. Oversee and maintain safe working equipment and report any concerns to the management team in a timely fashion.

7. Be proficient in learning, following and executing on merchandising plan.

E. PEOPLE

1. Maintain customer service levels according to company standards and Wakefern’s CSM measurement. 

2.  Engage and empower associates in order to maintain a high standard of employee morale and promote teamwork within the store.

3. Coach and motivate all associates to aspire to excellence.

4. Ensure all associates receive adequate and on-going on the job training.

5. Effectively communicate store direction in alignment with company initiatives to all store employees.

6. Act with integrity and lead by example.

 

Experience and Skills Required: The ideal candidate can demonstrate:

  Willingness to comply with all company policies pertaining to the position, including punctual and reliable attendance.
  The ability to read, interpret, analyze and understand the English language with sufficient proficiency.
  Competency in working with computers and programs such as Word, Excel, etc.
  The ability to perform all duties and responsibilities in an efficient and satisfactory manner that meets minimum standards for productivity, accuracy, cleanliness and safety.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ADA:

While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. Must possess sufficient physical mobility and agility to respond quickly to fire, Code Adam and other emergencies. The associate must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
